Notifications dont take you to topic / post

If you have the iOS app open, even in the task switcher, clicking on a notification in the notification center takes you where you want to go...
If the iOS app is NOT open, clicking on the notification opens the app to what you were last reading and stops. It will not take you to the topic / post that drove the notification you selected.
