This page displays all categories in your Gallery.
There are three buttons at the top:
The table lists all of your categories.
You can click and drag on the arrows on the left to reorder them.
On the right there is a dropdown menu with several options:
When adding or editing a category - the settings are separated by tabs at the top.
Category Information
This tab allows you to configure basic information about the category, such as it's name and description.
If Category Open? is set to no, regardless of any permissions, the category will not show.
If Category only mode is set to yes, then the category is treated like a forum category, that is, it expects to have child categories and nobody can submit images to it.
If Album only mode is set to yes, then users can not submit images directly, but instead only create albums within the category.
Submission Settings
This tab allows you to configure settings about submitting images to the gallery, such as if multimedia is allowed, or if images need approval.
If Require approval of images is set to yes, moderators will need to manually approve submissions before the public can view them.
If Require approval of new comments is set to yes, the same thing will apply to comments.
If Comments increment poster's post count is set to yes, when a user comments on an image, their post count will go up.
If Watermark Images is set to yes, your watermark will be added to all images uploaded to that category.
You will first need to set up your watermark. For more information, see the Getting Started Guide.
Create Thumbnails should, in most cases, be kept as yes.
Display Settings
This tab allows you to configure the default view for the category.
Members can edit this manually when viewing the category.
Category Rules
This tab allows you to configure a message that will display at the top of the category, just like the forum rules feature.
There are three buttons at the top:
- Global edit permissions This is simply a shortcut to the permissions editor, from here you can choose any permission set and then edit the permissions for Gallery categories all on one page.
- Resynchronise all This will resynchronise all categories. Most users will not ever need to run this tool.
- Add New Category
The table lists all of your categories.
You can click and drag on the arrows on the left to reorder them.
On the right there is a dropdown menu with several options:
- Add Sub-Category...
- Edit Category... The category settings control the global settings for the category, such as the category name.
- Edit Permissions... The permissions control which permission sets can view the category, upload images to it, etc.
- Empty Category...
- Delete Category...
- Bulk Import from Zip... This will allow you to upload a zip file containing images. All the images within the zip file will be added to the category.
- Bulk Import from Directory... This will allow you to specify a folder on your server containing images. All the images within the folder will be added to the category.
- Resynchronise.. Most users will not ever need to run this tool.

Re: the documentation though, this system really needs to have a version # associated with the documentation so that you know that you are reading documentation that is relevant for the version of the software that you are using.
