Tools & Settings: License Key

This document has been superseded - please click here to view the updated document.

IP.Board allows you to provide a license key to activate your product which will allow you to view information on your license.

Your community will function without a license key, however, some services which require callbacks (for example, them Spam Monitoring Service) require a valid license key to be provided in order to function.

Obtaining Your License Key

You can obtain your license key from the client area.

Once you have signed into the client area, click the "Packages" link on the left-hand side and then select your IP.Board license or IPS Hosting Account.

Now look for the section labelled "License Data" which will display your license key.

If you do not see a license key, please contact account assistance for assistance.

Managing Your License

Once you have obtained your key you can enter it in Admin CP --> System --> License Key.

Provided a valid license key has been entered, you will see a page that looks like this:

The yellow bar at the top indicates the last time your software contacted IPS to check on your license. If any of the information displayed appears out of date, click the link within it to refresh.
The pane indicates the products services available to you from IPS and the expiry date. If your license has expired, this will be indicated.

Addon Licenses

Addons such as IP.Blog, IP.Gallery, etc. must be associated with your IP.Board license or IPS Hosting Package, so that we know which addon belongs to which license, particularly if you have more than one IP.Board license.

If the License Key page does not show your addons even though you have purchased them, they may be associated incorrectly.

To resolve this, go to the client area, select "Packages" from the left-side.
Make a note of the package ID for the IP.Board license your addon belongs to. If you own more than one license and you're not sure, click on it and check the URL shown under the "License Data" section. Once you have the package ID, select the addon you want to associate.

Now locate the "Associate Forum" section and select the IP.Board license or IPS Hosting Package that the addon belongs to. Then click the "Associate" button.

Now, back in the License Key page of the Admin CP, click the refresh link in the yellow box and the addon should now display a green tick.

Problems

I see an the error "URL License Missing" on the Admin CP Dashboard
This normally means that the URL provided for your license is incorrect.
Under Admin CP --> System --> License Key click the "Remove License Key" button and then follow the steps above to re-enter your license key. be sure not to modify the URL on the "Activate Your License" form

When entering my license key, I get the error message "Could not locate the specified key"
This normally means that the license key you are entering is incorrect. Double-check you are entering is exactly as shown in the client area.

When entering my license key, I get the error message "There was an error contacting the license server, please try again later"
If you get this error there may be a temporary issue on our end, or your server may be unable to make calls to our server.
If your community is running on a closed network, you will need to allow it to contact our servers in order for services such as IP.Chat and the Spam Monitoring Service to work. Please contact technical support for more information.

I have purchased addons such as IP.Blog, IP.Gallery, etc. but the License Key page does not show these services as active
If you recently purchased, click the refresh link in the yellow box at the top of the License Key page.
If this does not resolve the problem, the addon may not be associated with the correct package, particularly if you own more than one IP.Board license. See the associating section above for more information, or contact account assistance.

If you have a problem not described above, the above solutions do not work, or would like more information about any product or service, or renewal terms, please contact our account assistance department.
