You do know you can have small skin edit and have it default to the list view instead yes ? , although not what you asked, it might help you :)

It's a design flaw. Anything that violates basic rules for good design - layout, white space, visual context, etc. - needs fixing. But it's semi-fixed in 2.3.0.
