Is there any plans to implement ldap into ipb, or any invision products (converge?). The reason I ask is we are a mainly windows shop here and all of our users are using windows active directory to log in. It would be wonderful if we could syncronize the users to that, or have the board check against ldap for passwords and usernames...

thanks

LDAP is a lot different than SQL. It's more of something that defines objects, not data.

I would compare LDAP to be more of anything like Active Directory than anything.

Active Directory uses LDAP....

When converge comes out, I would think you would be able to integrate the two. Would just require some custom coding.

uhm... where did i say anything about sql? I said that we are using active directory and would like ldap to be included into ipb so that we can use the AD user/pass for everything

Well, if you replace the converge driver with an LDAP version and do some hackery on the ipb_member_sync hook file, you should be able to pull it off relateively easily. All IPB needs is a username, password, and email to create the account. If your LDAP server provides that, you should be all set and can go from there.

I'll support this requirement.

As an enterprise user of IPB, the board is one of many applications that my users are confronted with that all have their own username/password store. This irritates them hugely! :(

We are driving toward a single sign on (SSO) environment, whereby user credentials are stored centrally and there isn't the need to memorise (or did I say write down) a zillion username/password pairs.

Having AD hooks - probably through LDAP - would be a cool, cool thing for enterprise deployments of IPB!

Maybe this should go in IPB Feature Requests? This would give an AWESOME edge for IPS over vBulletin, phpBB, and anything else for enterprise level users. It would bring it to the level of global class forum systems like SnowBoards.

hmmm, I can't see any settings or configuration pages for it? I've installed a test of the 2.1.0 Beta 5 and I've looked through all the Admin Pages :( any hints :)

I'm creating this site for internal use (if it passes the I.S. Review as some people want to use the inbuilt SharePoint Portal Discussion board    ), so I want to try and simplify the process as much as possible.

What I want to do is have IPB query AD for the currently logged in users information (Username, First Name, Last Name, email address, etc) and use it to create the account or pre fill out the details, with only the Display name being left up to the users. Infact if i can do a bulk import or run a script to that does this and defaults the display name to the username this would be good.

Any suggestions or recommendations for how to do this? I know that 99% of Invision boards are internet hosted and as such LDAP lookups / Active Directory Intergration isn't even slightly important. but I've seen IPB used really well in one large company and I can see where others would use it if it could talk to AD easily.

Thanks

Dallas
