Hello,

MySQL 4.1 has been released, it is a big improvement not just bug fix.

Severals things have changed ie : Fulltext

Does IPB has been tested with mySQL 4.1, what should we take care about before and while converting to 4.1 ?

Regards.

Gilles

Sorry for the previous empty topic, a bug occured

I would think that as MySQL 4.1 has just been released, there's been no time to fully test it with IPB2. I should imagine future IPB updates may take full advantage of whatever the new MySQL version brings :D

This is not a beta but a production version.

4.1 is an interesting version in many areas (faster, more secure, more stable, fully relationnal, mysql cluster), some host (my host actually) would like to upgrade to 4.1 but doesn't want to crash hundreds of IPB boards (full text for example)

There are really only 3 "big" changes:

Quote

Incompatible change: Binary values such as 0xFFDF now are assumed to be strings instead of numbers. This fixes some problems with character sets where it's convenient to input a string as a binary value. With this change, you should use CAST() if you want to compare binary values numerically as integers

Quote

Incompatible change: String comparison now works according to SQL standard: Instead of stripping end spaces before comparison, we now extend the shorter string with spaces.

Quote

Incompatible change: TIMESTAMP is now returned as a string in 'YYYY-MM-DD HH:MM:SS' format

The rest are all either special cases (weirdly named tables or special character sets), and don't affect 99.99% of the users out there. And given those changes above, I don't see any problems relating to IPB offhand.

The only thing they improved with FULLTEXT is to make it faster. Nothing incompatible has been changed or added.

Edit: It's really the new additions that add some major improvments. Prepared statements could make a big impact on MySQL speed if IPB were to support them (and this would be easy with the way the SQL abstraction works now).

This is not related to MySQL 4.0 or 4.1 but mysql server configuration, it's up to you to set it to less

Have been running 4.1 on our devel servers and the development board is working fine with it..

Timdor , yes prepared statements would be nice with IPB!!

Is there anyone working on a php5 mysqli driver for IPB?

The only thing holding me back from using php5 and mysqli is the lack of a freeware php cacher...

Turck mmcache is not compatable with php5!

I see now, I remember someone said on this forum that it was a limitation on MySQL, I didn't know it could be changed on the server configuration.

Has anyone tried mysql 4.1 with 2.0.1 running on a large production board? If so, give us some feedback on 4.1! :)

Timestamp might have to be changed...
I have seen it come out in that format before I think.

i guess mysqli will be a different module? it will take a loooong time for php5's and mysql 4.1's mainstream use.

Uhrrr, has IPB 2.0.3 not been tested with MySQL 4.1? Because that's what I'm running on my server, for about three weeks now (migrated from a phpBB forum). It's a big forum with nearly 850,000 posts, so if there are any issues with MySQL 4.1 it would be nice to know. And I did tweak the FULLTEXT search so it works with three character words. :)

if you haven't had a problem yet, I don't see why you would start to have a problem.

Neowin's been running MySQL 4.1 for a while. We're pretty big, so I think you'll be safe :)
