I hope it's not against the rules to ask this, so in caution I posted it in the Customer Chat. ;)

I just built a computer, and with a bundle for the CPU, mobo, and a RAM stick, I got Half-Life 2 [Bronze] and a Napster trial. I'm downloading HL2 as I type this, but I could care less about the Napster trial.

Since I don't want the Napster trial, I figure why let it go to waste, maybe someone out there wants it. I posted about it on my board first, but no one was interested, so this is my second stop.

Serious replies only; if you want the trial, just say so and I'll PM you all the info Newegg sent me.

Mods can go ahead and close this after the first serious response. I'll be back on tonight or tomorrow morning to check in. ;)

Is it a free trial?

If so, I'd gladly take it.

I'm pretty sure it's only a trial to stream the music (and buy tracks for a reduced price), not download as much as you want for free. ;)

It's probably the trial that they offer, which allows unlimited downloading and streaming of music. From there, you can just listen to it as usual, or pay for it to transfer the music to a CD slash DVD or a portable device.

I imagine its a trial of the subscription service? Where you download as much as you want, but you have to pay a monthly fee to keep it going. Which is great if you enjoy paying a corporation a monthly fee for as long as you want your music collection

Nah, that's not how it works. Basically, you can download or stream and listen to as much music as you want. You could think of it as a try before you buy type thing, but if you keep on paying the monthly subscription, you can listen to it for as long as you want. If you purchase the music, it's yours to do whatever with. If you don't continue to pay for the monthly subscription, you can still continue to listen, download, burn, and play your purchased music using Napster or any other media player that supports WMA DRM. :P

The way I understood it, you pay $15 a month (or whatever it is) to fill certain music players that are compatible up with as much music as you want. But if you stop paying the monthly subscription, the music locks itself and will not play anymore. The players are compatible with Napster so that the model works.

Or are we talking about different services?

The service you are referring to is called Napster To Go. Basically, you spend $14.95 a month, and you can transfer an unlimited amount of music to your Napster To Go compatible portable music player without having to spend $00.99 a track. The typical Napster service is $09.95 a month and allows one to download and stream an unlimited amount of music on up to three computers without having to pay for it, if you pay for it, than you can do pretty much anything that you want to with it. At the moment, there are only a few players that support Napster To Go, but that's because it is a new service, it will get better soon.

The Napster service sounds better than I thought it would be, but I have a huge Mp3 collection, and as it is I have OGGs, WMAs, and APEs mixed in there, a lot of it isn't ID3-tagged... What I need to do is clean it up folder by folder... So I still have no use for it. ;)
