I have tried to speak to AOL on the phone, it is really hard to explain because AOL technical dont even know what is the forum/message board. I was trying to say he is abusing my website with spam comments all over my forum. He said contact postmaster@aol.com - I said nooooo, nothing to do with spam emails!
I have tried to explain everything that user abusing my forum, not bloody email spam. Damn AOL tech dont know what forum is!!!
Do you have any idea how to report UK AOL better way??

AOL uses dynamic IP's... so actually stopping them will be hard. abuse@aol.co.uk will probably be your only hope :/.

You could disable all registrations for a few days to a week and see if he goes away.
You could also manually validate all registrations to your forum if you could pick him out at that point and deny his attempts from there.
Really depends on how popular your forum is and how much work it would be. If you dont get a lot of registrations a day either of the above options might deter him enough to give up.

Every time I had a problem with a user spamming or causing trouble and I couldnt get rid of them, they were an AOL user. Personally I am getting very annoyed...
How about we (webmasters) riot them (AOL)
. No? We got to do something dangit! Protest? Something!?

Reporting him to his ISP really won't get you anywhere, ISPs have bigger things to worry about than forum spamming.

every summer i have this issue and i have added things in my guidelines about it. What i wound up doing last time was banning all members within the IP strand and launch an investigation, requring all users who cliamed innocence to provide me with a current IP and their username login and a valid email. Id use DNS tools to run several inquiries into the Ip and verify all the ISp info and locations of it and then reinstate them. Some people got mad at first but when further explained they were ok with it and happy to be in the clear.

Yep I've done all that, I even have his home address from my investigation. ISP not doing anything about it.. Anyone using AOL on forum are totally banned at the moment.
AOL IP's banned:
172.1*
172.2*
How do I contact even I got his home address? police? AOL does nothing indeed!

If they are really determinded blocking AOL IPs will not help, they will use a proxy / proxies, its just impossible to stop like that, you can make it harder but thats it.
Manually validate accounts will have to do, and post moderate if need be for a week or so.
Also police will most liekly do nothing, if its only a small site, its too much resources.

[quote=seddleman,Apr 10 2005, 01:49 AM]Have you tried just suspending the person? I read in one post here ( somewhere) that a person uses this instead of banning for this exact reason.Maybe that will help?

well when i banned i also added their names and emails to the banned info lists so they can not recreate them. But you could suspened them for 999999999 days as well. I did that for someone who left the site.
