As long as sixty years ago, when I first started to read newspapers, I read of floods on the Yellow River and the Yangtze. Who rushed in with men and money to help? The Americans did. They have helped control floods on the Nile, the Amazon, the Ganges and the Niger. Today, the rich bottom land of the Misssissippi is under water and no foreign land has sent a dollar to help.

we must never forget

Hmm, by my calculations that is about 41p per litre, but the article works out at 37p per litre (have I gone wrong?).

I'd love to see people who complain about the price of oil live through the 70s. In 1979 OPEC prices hit $80 a barrel (in 2004 prices) though they sharply decreased after that.

That happened in BC earlier this year too, I worked at a gas station at the time.

And, dare I say, also very stupid. Gas stations have insurance against theft, including gas-n-runs.

Indeed, and that fact alone makes Mr. Caddi a prime candidate for a Darwin Award...

You guys pay significantly more for gas than Americans because of taxes. Your government adds a much higher amount onto the real price than ours does.

Rikki made a good comment in this post...

I think most people understand america is a big place and everything is spread out, so it's not very easy to just jump on a bike and go to the store, like it is for most people in the UK (and Europe I'd guess).
