Atlantis doesn't have a movie, its a spin off of the SG1 series.
Well, the local video store has a Stargate Atlantis DVD in the new releases section. It may be a pilot for that series (the Trek pilots and finales are all movie-length and movie-quality) but it didn't identify itself as an "episode". Though I'll concede that you probably know more about the Stargate series than I do, and I don't know exactly what it was I saw... just that it's a Stargate Atlantis DVD. ;)

I didn't say it in my last post, but it's amazing the Stargate series has gone on as long as it has. I watched both Star Trek: Deep Space Nine and Star Trek: Voyager, all the way through, in chronological order, and was amazed with both, particularly DS9, but both could have gone on for a few more seasons... but it seems Star Trek has a seven season limit, because that's as far as TNG, DS9, and VOY all go, despite room for further continuation.

So to me, that means that when (if) I do start watching Stargate from downloads/torrents, it will go on longer... it will take longer to watch, but it took me 4-5 months to watch each Trek series, so I'm prepared for a long haul. We don't have TV (well, broadcast... we don't have cable), and I absolutely hate watching a 45 minute program in a one hour time slot, with ads in between, and not being able to pause it or skip the opening credits. It's a terribly inefficient way to watch a show, and if you don't want to miss anything, it's problematic for a few reasons. I can honestly say that I watched every bit of those Deep Space Nine and Voyager episodes, and saw every scene. :)

In the US the pilot episode "Rising" was released as a seperate DVD like a movie

You're right it is amazing just how long it has gone on, not least because of the trouble they had with showtime cancelling it, popularity dropping around season 5 (seasons 4, 5 and 6 were all pitched as possibly the last season) & major cast members coming and going (first Michael Shanks [Dr Daniel Jackson] although he returned after 1 season, then Teryl Rothery [Dr Janet Fraiser], Don S Davis [General George Hammond], Carmen Argenziano [Selmak/General Jacob Carter] and now Richard Dean Anderson [Colonel /General Jack O'Neill])

Yeah, that's exactly what they have in the video store. Actually I read the title as "Stargate: Atlantis Rising" as if "Rising" was part of the title. But I forgot that part.

That would weird me out, seeing James Spader and Kurt Russel's parts played by other people... but I guess they can't get big stars to do TV series.

My girlfriend is telling me that Stargate was totally ripped off in the Disney movie Atlantis... which is funny that the new Stargate series is called Atlantis. She saw the Disney Atlantis first, and then when we watched Stargate, she thought it was based on Atlantis (Disney, not the new SG series) until she realized Stargate came out first. Odd, I always wanted to see the Disney film, though I never saw any similarity between its trailer and what I knew about Stargate.

Well the lost city of atlantus is an anchient story thought to be a myth. So there's not really anyone to do it first because it's been around for ages. There are quite a few different producers who have used Atlantus and added their own little twist to it.

So did a search for the longest running Scifi show and found this post in Google (1st page). I now own season 1 - 8. My only problem is how on season 1, disk 3 (The Nox), you can't hear Apophis. Seems there was a setup error when they made the disk (amazon reviews & other sources agree).

At least downunder they have taken to releasing franchise seasons in two formats. 1) multiple sets for each season, cheaper per set but more expensive overall 2) the complete season as a 6 Disc bundle.

The pilot is movie length so conceivably they released it as stand alone to test the waters in your region.

For the person who got the movie DVD. Am intrigued. Purchased the Universal "2 Disc Ultimate Edition", which comes with the theater release and an extended cut. The extended cut has additional scenes, but simply repeats one scene at the start and midway through, which l thought was a bit of a con. How's your version look in this regard?

For anyone thinking on purchase the season editions downunder be warned they come sans special features, nothing but the shows. And if you wait a couple of weeks the ezy is releasing tins for seasons 1 and 2 of Stargate SG1.
SbyD Easter Madness released for 2.2.x, put some fun in your site with handmade graphics!

Movie Heretic - Movie review, Box Office! Now with added schlock goodness, come on down Ed Wood!
