I'm thinking of getting a handheld game system and was wondering what people think I should get. The PSP is nice but I think it is probably a little expensive for the amount I would use it. My niece got a micro gameboy today and I really like it so I'm leaning towards that. I don't really like the Nintendo DS.

I like the PSP because it can also play music and videos if I am not mistaken. I don't know what features the Micro Gameboy has, though.

I would (infact did) go for the PSP - is miles ahead of anyhting else out there, also pretty good screen for playing films on - certainly worth the extra £££ IMO!

If I do go for the PSP, what format videos does it play (UMD I know, but I won't buy them ;)), is it just MP4?

MPEG-1, DivX and MPEG-4 as far as I know.

Edit: Just checked the PSP site and it seems that MPEG-1 and DivX are not supported.

Yea the PSPs are amazing, I've seen or used the others and the PSP is miles ahead of them all. Definately worth the extra money as Alex said.

I've got my PSP now and the graphics are amazing, it's easy to use and I love that you can put music, photos and videos on it easily (I've got to buy a bigger memory card though)

It is definitely worth the extra.

The only thing that gets me thinking is that games are kind of expensive... so are the big capacity memory cards.

Why not just get a bunch of games for your cellphone for mobile gaming if you don't plan on using it that much. :P

I don't think the games are expensive, they are around £29.99 mostly and some have gone down to £17.99 in the UK, plus the memory cards are coming down in price as well.

Now Xbox 360 games they are expensive, they start at a low of £39.99 on play.com but they are £49.99 at some places.

Memory cards have certainly come down alot since the launch - got a 2gb Sony one the other day for £90, not long ago would only be able to get a 1gb for that money!

You mean apart from the fact that to me a phone is a device to store numbers, call people and send text messages? Which is why I bought a basic phone rather than one which costs more than an iPod for a bunch of stupid and useless features :P

In the end I bought the PSP Gigapack with World Tour Soccer (didn't have a choice, all the shops were including that in the bundle), Coded Arms and Lumines

I got to play with a PSP over Christmas and I have to say I wasn't impressed. I thought the graphics were going to be quite better. Needless to say they're the best graphics on a handheld system, it didn't quite live up to my expectations. Not to mention the game that I played (Madden) had a large amount of features taken out (not sure if that was to make it available on launch day or some other restriction).

I'd go with the PSP or DS; if you have the extra money burning a hole in your pocket go with the PSP. But you can't go wrong with the DS.
