We are setting up a new site, using Joomla for the front end and IPB Forum.

No I'm having a bit of difficulty locating any information about how / whether converge can handle all the user login details.

Help?

Joomla would require a little modification to allow converge support, but converge should be able to handle the login details for both applications.

if you use a non ips product you probably will have to remain to do some coding yourself.

I would like to see Mambo and Joomla allow Converge support. I know both products fairly well so when Converge is released, I will be writing a module that will allow for this.

You can buy a bridge for $20 that goes joomla/mambo to IPB directly right now

That's not the point. Making the two applications Converge ready will allow them to also be integrated into a larger network of applications that might be more than just IPB and Mambo/Joomla wink.gif

Grant, at the moment, converge is just an interface to your ipb login system which means that ipb has to be involved, so don't expect wonders of it.

If you mean the one that was submitted on invisionize some months ago and then removed, I have to tell you that it sucked bad as hell.  rolleyes.gif The "integration" it does is simply ridiculous, someone has got to bust these guys for selling such crap.  getlost.gif

Invision Power Services is proud to reveal Invision Power Converge (IP.Converge).

IP.Converge is a new product that allows several products or several product installations to share the same log in credentials database. This means that your members only need to register once and they'll have access to all your converged applications with a single username and password.

IP.Converge will be free to IPS customers who have a current license for IP.Board, IP.Nexus or IP.Dynamic.

IP.Converge, via its powerful administration interface, allows you to register new IP.Converge ready applications, such as IP.Nexus, IP.Dynamic and IP.Board. Once an application is registered, your members will begin using IP.Converge transparently to log in and manage their account.

IP.Converge only stores the member's log in details. Profiles, such as permission information and display names are kept with the local applications. I have read already that IPS will be releasing some developer documentation for us, so we can make other applications Converge ready as well ( considering this product will be closed source ). So, I think I can manage to make Joomla and IPB or whatever other software work together.

Not only can you centralize your member's log in credentials, you can also link up several applications over the internet. IP.Converge is specifically designed to allow IP.Converge ready applications the ability to link up - the applications don't need to be in the same database, server or even network!.

So when it is released, I should be able to make Joomla Converge ready and allow this application to work with other Converge Ready applications. I remember reading somewhere that IPS will also be releasing some Dev docs to allow us to make Non-IPS applications Converge ready as well. So, I should be able to make Joomla and whatever other application Converge ready as well.

The IPB Login Plugin system is the beginning of Converge. This is the actual Converge Installation as seen on Matt's Blog. Converge is becoming an actual software package:

Converge is a standalone application that will allow you to easily integrate all your IPS products.

You can ALSO (or, if you were brave, alternatively) Converge standalone applications, but you would be responsible for making the necessary converge_local folder and database tables.  Essentially, Converge passes a few main points of necessary login information (email, password, salt, etc.) to the applications, and each application is then responsible for doing what it needs to do with that information.

More info will be released soon, yes.

Just for clarification Joomla like many apps don't use salted passwords it is just a straight up MD5 of the password. i designed a mod for joomla that makes it use salted passwords so then it can pull the Converge_pass_hash, the salt value from the invision 2.1.7 DB and compare them to what was being entered in Joomla as a password, the joomla mod would then check the password with the salt value provided by Invision to see if the salted md5 passord matchs the converge_pass_hash that is stored for that user in invisions DB then it could authenticate the user for joomla.

Ok, so i'm looking at converge and the tables in mysql, i see the converge_pass_hash and the salt value but my question is how does converge know what the plain md5 password (non salted) is to pass on to apps like joomla, mambo, phpbb and other non salt using apps. I did not see a field for just an MD5 only pass hash. So does converge always send the salted pass hash or can it send the plain md5 pass also??  May im missing something just tring to get a handle on how converge will interact with 3rd party apps.

It may be nice if there was an example doc written up with a converge working with a simple app like phpbb so some of use can get a better idea of the coding it may take to adapt it to joomla and other apps.

thanks

The developer docs here explain this.

QUOTE
acp_md5_password The md5 hash of the plain text password for the
‘acp_email’ user.
QUOTE
md5_once_password The result of the plain text password passed via md5().

The passwords are md5'd once.

I think Converge is released, or?

The best way i think is to write an Login Modul and a Converge Componente that integrate Converge User to the Joomla Member Database so that you can use
the Memberinformation with other Joomla Modules.

So if anyone here how can write this, please tell or write a mail. I'm also ready to pay for it.

Thanks.
