So, I've been thinking of purchasing a handheld.. but I'm not too up-to-date in the PDA world. What would you suggest? I need something with built-in wifi, preferably not with one of those damn keyboards.

I was looking at Palm's, but I don't know which one of theirs would be best, the E2 or the LifeDrive.

I'd seriously suggest you get a Windows Mobile based device. It's got the best support, is rock solid, and there is boatloads of software you can pick from to make it work the way you want. I don't often see PalmOS software.

Personally, I use iMate devices (I think you'd recognise them more as O2 brand - they're HTC OEM devices) - have the built in WiFi, Bluetooth, Infrared, as well as (obviously) ActiveSync. Also, they do have models without the keyboard.

From what I could find of iMate, it's not really what I want... They are quite expensive... and, forgive me if I'm wrong, they are all phones aswell. While that would be nice, I'd prefer to keep the two seperate.

Oh, sorry I forgot some people don't like the PDA-Phone type thing. I've heard lots of good things about HP iPaqs as well, or Dell Axims. It all depends what your expected price range is.

So... any other suggestions? If not, I think I'm gonna go with the Palm LifeDrive.

I actually just purchased a Palm T|X about a month ago as a replacement to my old E (the original, not E2) and I can say for sure it was the correct decision (and about $100.00 cheaper). I looked at both the T|X and the Lifedrive and for what the T|X offered vs the Lifedrive I went with the T|X. It has 128megs of space (100 available), WiFi (802.11b) and bluetooth compatability, most programs preinstalled and of course DataViz's "Documents to Go" v7 which allows you to modify Microsoft Office files on your palm then sync them up with the files on your computer. The only learning curve you'll have is the Graphitti language Palm uses for text entry. But, at least for me, its not that hard and if you have problems there is both a cheat sheet and online documentation to help you. If you get completely lost there is the ability to pull up a graphical keyboard and type using the stylus, but I don't think it should be an issue.

Which ever you end up buying, make sure you test drive it at the store before you make the purchase.

Good Luck.

I haven't had a PDA in a while, but I do remember Graffiti (That's the way it was spelled back in the day.) and I didn't have the patience to learn it. They used to have keyboards that fold up and were just about the same size as the PDAs themselves, I'd imagine they still exist. Though I can't vouge for any of the more recent models, I can attest to Palm's customer support. The time I had a problem they arranged a return and exchange at the place of purchase (Office Depot if memory serves.).

Heh, yea, I used to have one of the earlier non-color palms with Grafiti... it was quite the challenge.

The thing I like most about the LifeDrive over the T|X, however, is the 4gb hard drive.
