Yes. IPC.Joomla is out. You'll need to install IP.Converge in order to use it and currently it's free to those with an active IP.Board license.

To explain a little more about Converge...

Converge is a standalone application that allows you to share login credentials between other applications.
So you set up Converge, and you set up your other applications - you then add each application to Converge; as you add the application Converge imports the users from each application.
Then, when you try to log in at any of the applications you've "Converged" - rather than checking their local database, they send a request to Converge to authenticate the user.

Converge works using XML-RPC and so the applications do not need to be on the same domain, or even the same server to work.

Currently supported apps are: IP.Board, Joomla and Wordpress - with more coming soon :)

I recently switched over to Joomla and am interested in installing Converge. Once I install Converge and add Joomla as the application, will my Invision Forum database be written to BY Joomla? I don't want this, I just want Joomla to use my Invision db to pull credentials, but not write to it. Is this how it works? Thanks.

You can set them up to share a database (using different table prefixes), or have them operate in their own dedicated databases. In either case, they only work together to let people log in to both using the same credentials; they don't write to each others' databases.

So if I install Converge, I can authenticate the users against the forum database to access Joomla apps, such as instant messenger?

This stuff is really best asked in the support topic for this product, which you should have access to as an existing customer. I don't know how the instant messenger feature works in Joomla, but in theory, yes, it should let your forum users authenticate into that.
