Several people have been asking about a converter for vBulletin 4 to IP.Board 3.
The converter system on our website at the moment includes a converter for vBulletin 3.8, but not 4.0.

I have been working on a vBulletin 4 converter and it is attached to this post.
It works exactly the same as the converter on our website, and is covered by the conversion service which is available for $60.
For instructions how to use the converter, please see this article: http://community.inv...html?record=175

At the moment, the converter can handle:
  • Importing member data to IP.Board. Including preserving user passwords, custom profile fields, etc.
  • Importing forum data (topics, posts, polls and attachments) to IP.Board.
  • Importing calendars and events to the calendar application which is included with IP.Board.
  • Importing blogs, including comments and attachments to IP.Blog if you have purchased and installed IP.Blog.
  • Importing user's albums, including comments into IP.Gallery if you have purchased and installed IP.Gallery.

It cannot handle:
  • Importing users paid subscriptions.
  • Importing data from vBulletin's CMS feature.
Both of these I will be looking into over the next couple of weeks. If it is critical for you that this data is converted, you should wait until the converter is finished.

If you have any problems with the converter, please submit a support ticket, it will find it's way to me.
If there's any new features in vBulletin 4 which I've missed that you feel could be converted, please let me know :)

We fix almost all the bugs that are reported. Sometimes, a bug is so minor and the fix so invasive we leave it for a future version. That's quite rare, though.

Excellent work and very fast considering when VB4 was released.

Any chance of a similar article system to import cms data into? Nudge, nudge ;)

Interesting :)

I'm looking forward to see how IP.Content develops and would switch to IPB for our main site if there was a cms/article system in-built with the same kind of forum/article comments integration.

VB4 has some nice ideas but there are lots of bugs and the design is only marginally better than it was in beta. IPB seems more consistent and stable. The VB4 cms is great is essence but has lots of problems. On the other side of the fence IPB is evolving with some fantastic features, bells and whistles and is genuinely enjoyable to use.

But no cms so I can't switch (and I don't want to combine it with another software system like Joomla).

I ran the update and most everything seems to have gone okay so far. One issue I've noticed, however, is that the converted PMs are no longer chronologically ordered. I ran the query suggested here, and it seems to be fixed now. :)

I have a question, I know that the converter itself can't convert the vb4 cms to ip.content, but if I buy the conversion service can you guys do the conversion?

Not at the moment.
With the conversion service, we use the normal converter script. So once the script can handle it, we'll be able to do it in the conversion service.

How is this working? Anything I should be cautious of before the conversion?

Seems to be working fine apart from attachments. I've moved all my attachments to the database to make things easier and I get...

Quote

You entered "." for the path but you have some attachments in the file system

So I moved them back to the server and no attachments transfer over :(

EDIT: It seems to have fixed itself. Now the attachments have appeared (phew!)
