Ok i have posted this before but i thought i would start a new thread to get my point across as i feel this is a vital part of the gallery.

After looking at the bbcode to share albums I have to admit I’m a little disappointed. I've always thought the gallery was lacking as it was so separate from the forum making it redundant in some cases. This is the most important feature of the gallery I feel being able to share an album/photo.

If I’m reading through a forum and I come to a gallery I want to see the images not go to another page to see them via a pretty link loosing my place in the forum topic.

I understand that some galleries have 100's of images and you can’t display them all at once in a forum but surely you can put some kind of slideshow in with the option then to go to the gallery bit like a video player?

Not only could you embed your gallery slideshow into a forum you could use it in your IPC pages, articles and databases. Hell thinking about it you could make it so you can embed it into any html which mean members could post there albums up on other sites with your branded slideshow player which intern would bring more traffic to your site.

I think the gallery should be more about taking it out the box to other places rather than directing people to the gallery if that makes sense.

I mocked up a quick idea below. I must also add i have no idea on the complexity of this and im only looking at this from a user rather than a developers point of view.

Couldn't agree more! The Gallery is far too much of a parallel system instead of a part of a synergistic whole. If you made it easy to drop in images/albums/media from the gallery without leaving a post editor screen (heck let them UPLOAD without leaving the editor, just do both via popup) it wouldn't force users to put images/media in as attachments when they suddenly realized they needed them to illustrate a point. The gallery should be THE repository for images and media, not just a separate part of the site that you go to if you just want to look at other people's pictures .

I really like the idea of being able to drop in a functional mini slideshow, it would make having media in the gallery soooo much more useful!

Am I sounding like a broken record yet?

One enhancement however with 3.2.3 is the "My Media" button / code where you can embed a gallery image or images in a forum post. Clicking on the image opens the gallery page. This could probably be enhanced to allow multiple selected images to display as a slideshow rather than displaying each image as a clickable thumbnail. This would need to be optional. For some reason My Media doesn't seem to work here on IPS's own forum. It's working on mine.
