Hello! First i have to say i know nothing about boards, techy stuff, computers, etc...

What i want to do is have some cute forums where i can post things and have my members be able to post things as well. It should have a main page that tells details of what my forums are about and also have different skins.

My questions are:

Will i need to buy the ipb license to use the forums?

If i just pay the $4.99 for the cheapest forum service will that include a url of my choosing or will it be like a www/invisionpower/whateverinameit?

Sorry my questions are terrible lol

To purchase an IPB License it would cost $150, then $25 for 6 month renewal. IP.Board also has an application called "IP.Content". You can purchase a Domain from a place such as GoDaddy, but you would also need hosting. IPS also offers hosting, which is called "IPS Hosting". And no. Unless you use a free forum host like invisionfree or some rubbish, you will have to use a subdomain from that host. Getting your own domain will mean its only for YOUR site. For example "foxface.com/forums/" for instance.

IP.Board allows you to use many different skin sets for each forum on your board also.

Hope this helps with your question! :)

We have two different options for choosing your flavor. We have both the $149 "Self Hosted" version, which you run on your own webserver, or we have a monthly "Hosted Community".

Personally, based on what you have said, I would suggest you get a hosted community. You can use your own domain name on it, or use one of ours.

If you currently have a forum hosted at nameofsite.com/forum - will it still be the same URL after hosted by IPB?

If you stick with your own webhosting, yes, you can set that up.

If the forum is hosted by IPB, can you give me an example of what the URL would be like?

Thank you...

I think that sounds good.. forum.yoursite.com - this way the site keeps it's value as opposed to now losing hundreds of thousands of pages worth of posts... Unless I'm still missing something...

You won't lose any hundreds of thousands of pages of posts, don't worry. You can easily transfer your existing site into our hosting. And, if you are coming from a regular license onto our hosting, we will help to migrate your board - free.

Oh, I see.. So I could basically move my entire website to your server and it would be the same as simply moving the site to a new server.. I was thinking I had to have my hosted IPB forum on your server and the rest of my site on my server.. Got it..

Thank you!
