Hello,

I currently use IP.Board 2.3.6 and monetise my community using the Subscriptions module.

Firstly, I've seen quite a bit of negativity from fellow Subscriptions-users regarding the switch to Nexus, I'm basically seeking some reassurance that whatever issues existed - are now gone. Existing Nexus users please speak up.

Our subscription package(s) are critical to the success and continuation of our site, so I need to be 100% sure that Nexus is the right path to take, as I'm sure you'll understand.

My questions:

  • I'd like to set up a subscription package that is billed quarterly, except the initial payment, which will be a one-off amount. Is this possible?
  • Referring to the above question, how does this tie-in with PayPal and automatic renewals.
  • Is it possible to have one package/membership but multiple billing options (Yearly, Quarterly, Monthly etc)?
  • If so, can the price change depending on the option taken, for example to lower the overall cost slightly for an up-front yearly payment?
  • If I have a user that cancels his/her subscription via PayPal, what is the situation thereafter? For example, does he/she still get an invoice which can be paid (and an option to set up the subscription with PayPal again)?
  • Is there a settable duration period in which users have to pay their invoice before the subscription is cancelled/terminated?
  • Finally, why should I use Nexus over the IP.Subscriptions module?
Look forward to hearing from you! :)

3) I dont think so..no..unless staff have edit the nexus..

7) Nexus are soooo much better than Subscriptions, Nexus has so many options, you can make a profit from Subscriptions, Hosting, Addvertising and so on. :)
Own ticket system.. yeah.. so many things that are better than IP.Subscriptions.

I would recommend Nexus on the strongest!

Although I've replied to your ticket, I may as well paste the reply here for anyone else who has the same questions :)

Hi Rob,

To answer your questions:

I'd like to set up a subscription package that is billed quarterly, except the initial payment, which will be a one-off amount. Is this possible?

Absolutely. You can set what we call a "base price" (which is the price they pay to purchase) and a "renewal price" (which is the price to pay to renew) - you can set renewable terms to be any time period you like.
In fact, we use this feature here at IPS - a Standard License is $149, and renewals are $25 bi-yearly.

Referring to the above question, how does this tie-in with PayPal and automatic renewals.

PayPal Subscriptions can be used to take payment automatically. PayPal supports having a separate purchase and renewal price and it works as you would expect.

Is it possible to have one package/membership but multiple billing options (Yearly, Quarterly, Monthly etc)? If so, can the price change depending on the option taken, for example to lower the overall cost slightly for an up-front yearly payment?

Not as such. You would simply create multiple versions of the same product with different renewal options. Fortunately, IP.Nexus includes a "duplicate package" button.

If I have a user that cancels his/her subscription via PayPal, what is the situation thereafter? For example, does he/she still get an invoice which can be paid (and an option to set up the subscription with PayPal again)?

Yes, he'll get an invoice generated by Nexus prompting him to pay. From there he can select any available payment method.

Is there a settable duration period in which users have to pay their invoice before the subscription is cancelled/terminated?

Yes. The purchase always expires on it's expiry date, but you can set how many days before the expiry date you would like the renewal invoices to be generated.

Finally, why should I use Nexus over the IP.Subscriptions module?

In IP.Subscriptions a user could only ever purchase one item (as the idea was you would purchase one subscription). IP.Nexus features so much more than IP.Subscriptions:
  • A full store with a shopping cart
  • Customisable tax and shipping options
  • Coupons
  • Much more detailed Admin CP and client area controls and records
  • Credits
  • Custom package fields which can customise price
  • Donation options
  • Report features that can generate graphs showing purchases and income over time, or pie charts showing your most popular products
  • A complete support system
  • CPanel/WHM integration

In addition, IP.Subscriptions is no longer supported by IPS, while it has been handed over to a third-party to continue maintenance, IP.Nexus gives you IPS-level support with guaranteed turnaround times, free installs and upgrades and direct interaction with our very talented support agents and developers.

Hope that answers your questions. I'd also strongly recommend creating a demo to try IP.Nexus for yourself. Demos last for 5 days, but if you need longer, just let me know.

Please let me know if there's anything else you need.
