Dear Sir,

It has become a very big issue that multiple screan names affect bard communities.  People create multiple user names to bash other members..

What can your software do to Identify this..

Is there a fuction that I can turn on your software that lets everymember see what other screan names the person posting has..

Thank you

You can allow members to change their display name or to keep with the same one - the choice is yours.  You can also limit say 1 change every 60 days for example.

A member would only have one display name at any one time.

In addition to what Ian said, the display name history can be made available on a per-group basis in the user profile.

Hey Brandon, where in the ACP is this setting? I've looked & tried to do an ACP search but can't find it. Thanks!

It's actually tied to the ability to view profiles.

Oh ok, I was actually searching for an individual setting to disallow viewing of display names. Thanks!

I am borrowing this thread a bit for a similar question.

Our forum (SMF) has a strict "real name only" policy where member must supply his real first&surname when registering, and admin's will then approve the registrations and check for valid data.

I'm planning on converting to IPB and would this work here too without much struggle:

1) the registration with mandatory real name question (login name should be different?)
2) admin approval
3) user should be disallowed from changing his display name (real name)

Members can only register with one name. That name acts as their display name and login. However you can allow and disallow users to change their display name.

Admins can set up their forums so all members go through admin approval as well.

Ian,

thank you for your reply.  but what is there to keep a person from making more screan names...  He can register 5 times and create 5 diferent names.

Can you see the IP address and limit to one membership per IP address...

thank you

There is nothing built into IPB that disallows multiple accts from one IP however there are a couple different mods available in the market place that may be what you are looking for.

The problem you have is it is very easy for people to change IP addresses - even on broadband, so any system would have limited value to be certain of one account per IP.

However there are a couple of mods in the marketplace which attempt to detect duplicate accounts, so maybe you need this in conjunction with the built in methods.
