Hi everyone. I currently run a fairly large Vbulletin 4 forum. It is a sports forum and we have 13,000 members and about 350 people online at any time (about 1,000 on Sundays during games). I have a few questions:

1) Will all of my threads, posts, and members transfer from Vbulletin to IPS? Post counts as well?

2) Are templates easy to add/edit? Is it all code or is there a template manager to help us out?

3) Is there any speed difference between IPS and Vbulletin? Or is it the same?

Thanks everyone.

Hi,

1) Yes, your members, threads, posts, will be transferred over ok.

2) Yes, Ipb has a very easy to understand templating system that you can modifiy it to your needs with ease.

3) In my personal opinion Ipb has a much better speed/loading performance than vB.

1) Yes.  You can see everything that will be converted at http://www.invisionp...ite/convert.php

2) IPB has a template manager that can be used to create, manage, and export themes.

3) A lot of it depends on the design and modifications added.  I generally find a vanilla IPB install to be zippier than the default vB install.

Thanks for the responses everyone. Has anyone here converted from Vbulletin to IPS? How hard was it? I'm not great with hosting.

I am doing the same thing with an Alabama Crimson Tide Forum and nervous as hell.

I'd like a step by step tutorial on how to transfer from Vbulletin to IP. Can't find one yet.

Did you look here?

If you'd like some extra info on installing IPB, there's a detailed guide here.

I transfered my vBulletin forum to IPB a while ago. I hated vB v4.X.X. It was too slow and laggy.

How simple was the conversion?

You will when you are added to the customers group after purchasing your license. :)

Easy! Just follow the steps. The only problems I had was that my members names all had "Guest" in front of them. The problem was that I ran the steps out of order so ya... I had to send in a support ticket to IPB and they fixed everything for me. :)

You can also pay IPS to do it for you if you are not comfortable with it.

They will also install the forum software free if you wish, prior to you converting.

However it is fairly straight forward, but if you get issues we are here to help.

When you convert you will convert to a new database/location so your existing site is untouched - however I would still strongly suggest having a full backup.  I did a couple of test runs prior to converting for real, the second of which I opened up to members to test out and pass comments back.  Do dry runs can make the live conversion less confusing and takes away some of the worry of 'will it work'.

I moved from vB to IP.Board too. I haven't looked back since. Welcome to IPS!
