before it was easy to upload images to directories by uploading them in bulk by FTP and then moving them to albums
why they got rid of such useful feature bugs me.

you may think its wrong but in my view its the right thing to do, reason i got IPB software was for its ease of use.
if a company goes down a path that you dot like, there are two things you can do
Shut up and Live with it
or
Speak with your wallet until they fix the issue.
I had asked for a Valid reason why they would redesign the Gallery and remove parts of it, yet to receive a Valid Reason.

It's worth noting that the new uploader does allow multiple uploads at once. You no longer have to upload them one at a time. You can set up to 100 to upload at a time, and you can review and name them in one go too which makes the whole process much quicker.
... Are you kidding me.
Which one is easier and less time-consuming.
Zip'em up and upload them via admin-cp.
Or do the manual work and click 100 times to upload 100 images.
....
Give me few good reasons why some basic features are removed as well: sorting options and etc.
You are about to lose a customer here as well.

Yes it does BUT, some server can't handle that and zip is quicker. It was stated a while while back that FTP for Admins was coming back.
someone from IPS management, any chance you tell me why it was removed.

With a attitude like that I would not reply myself. But they have not been replying much on the feedback forums, true.

Correct here zipping and mass uploading and sticking in an album was a great feature before it was taking out but like above they did state they were bring it back.

I lost my money so if anyone wants to buy it - don't waste your money.
We were asked to suggest some new features to newest version, and what? Nothing - Invision is not listening its customers- after half year most important features are still not available in gallery. Its hard to even read official Invision reply to our complains.
ex. about year ago - users asked to have settings for categories in galleries where site users can't create new albums - only images. Like it was before - Category called 'users albums' was for this. Still no possible to set it (causing mess in gallery)- after almost a year!

Having said that I have to admit that I've grown to like it and certainly wouldn't be without it. Just uploaded 30+ photos using the bulk uploader, took around 90 seconds. Never tried zip so cannot comment on that. The 'add media' is a great app within the text editor. The only thing I do miss in the gallery (comments) editor is the Emoticon features.
To overcome a long and tedious method of trying to explain this and the board in general I just make a video added to a help guides forum, not a pro orator but certainly good enough to help with changes like this.
Not sure whether this was a choice in the previous gallery (senility) but I really do like the option to add an album to the board index (Matt where is the "latest poster" you originally added within this choice)
Not knocking any complaints here, but for me personally I prefer this version. (just a simple soul

Option not to use square thumbnails doesn't work. All that happens is after you rebuild the images is images are squashed to fit inside the square frame.
No option to remove large random image.
Can't specify size of thumnails.
Recent image thumbnails too small. Emphasis should be on latest images not on albums. At least give us the choice.
Can no longer pin images.
Browse mode should display images in grid i.e. 5 rows and 5 columns.
Need more sorting options.
It's not immediately apparent that the medium size image can be clicked on to display the full size version. Gallery 3 had a magnifying glass.
Gallery 4 displays the images in the wrong order in global albums that were upgraded from version 3. i.e. I have albums for image competitions that were displayed 1st, 2nd and 3rd. After the upgrade they are now 3rd, 2nd and 1st. The 3rd place image is now being used as the album cover image when it should be the first.
Fix all these and gallery 4 will be a lot more useful.

I upgraded from 3.1.4 to 3.2.3 a couple of days ago. Uploading multiple files is fine. Here's my issues:

Wow I can't believe they did that and called it a solution. Exasperating.
Can't we just get a gallery 4 that replicates the functionality of 3, fixing its bugs, and have all this "new and improved" nonsense be optional? That is how you introduce new product features while continuing to support the needs of your current customers.
I can't upgrade anything in the entire suite because I'd be stuck with this misguided gallery product. Very frustrating.

As someone who frequently needs to upload pictures in a rush from the Auto Show floor, I greatly appreciate the new system of uploading more. It is more reliable and easier to do quickly.

But upload as a zip it allows a Admin to just do a dump of an images into a album of a different user vs one of yours you can only do currently. I think a mass upload as zip is a good part and hope it comes back as it was said it would. True the front end 10 or edit to 100 is a good thing but an edit has to be done and if you want to add more details that works, a mass dump is better. IMHO.
We have not abandoned Gallery at all. In fact, we are currently working on an update for IP.Gallery and more information will be forthcoming in the blogs in due course.
Good to hear.
