You could start with a Hosted Community package and then migrate to a self hosted licence at a later date.
Downloads - Documentation - Community Articles - Marketplace Blog
A Look Back - 1.0.1 - 1.3.1 - 2.0.0 - 2.1.7 - 2.2.0 - 2.3.6

Sorry to sound harsh, but if you are struggling to afford the licence then you may also struggle to afford hosting, so purchasing a hosted soloution at say $9.99 a month to start off with will give you a far better return and then once your site has grown and perhaps you are making a few dollars from adverts you can save up for a full licence and external hosting - or just upgrade your package.

While I agree...Really the hosted packages offered by IPS are really restrictive. I would save up some dough and hit up a full license and find a decent webhost to host IPB on.
if OP is balking at $50... seems best.As it starts at jusrt $4.99 a month it is very reasonable to get it hosted.

At the current exchange, £50 is equivalent to $77, which is essentially half the price. I would need to consult billing to confirm this, but I believe that if you own two or more standard licenses, then you can purchase another license for $99. So you're not only asking for a discount to own only one license, but on top of that, you're asking for it to be at an amount that's less than a loyal customer would be paying. Put simply, I don't see it happening.I have come here because I want to buy IP Board but I don't fancy paying over £50. I will if I have to, but is there any sort of discount that I will be able to get at all.
You might consider what the others have suggested, and that is to use our hosting. If you're really tight on funds, then use the $5/month plan. You can then use IP.Board and develop a community and when you have enough spending money, you can purchase the full product and then move to another host if you want to. With $77 at hand, you could be hosted by us for 15 months. Not a bad deal really, especially if you're low on funds.
