Paid or free to down-vote without trying is just showing off a little ignorance.

An analogy for you - I download a LOT of music, some free and some paid. Sometimes I will download a new song from a mixtape website before it is available in iTunes, but then once it's available in iTunes I might want to share my rating. If they block you from rating because you didn't download it through iTunes directly, I wouldn't be able to do that.

On this site particularly, it's unfortunate that people can vote for a file without having downloaded it, because this is the most popular place for authors of files in the Marketplace to show off their wares. It can deter future customers if some troll decided to review a file without having used it.

please.... please. Then, I hate to say it, but maybe have it as something that is a setting in the Admin CP. There are people that are going to want this both ways.

How is it acceptable to have someone rate a paid file, when they have not bought, used, or even seen it in action?
its like judging a book by its cover...... and its severely not right in this MP.

It should be.Why shouldnt the price you charge be a factor for a persons rating of your product?
If after purchase they feel the product was not worth the price paid, then they may rate the file accordingly.
What my issue is, is rating without use... without even knowing the amount of work put into it, or even its functionality...
It is the at-a-glance trolling of paid mp items very simply because they are not free that bugs me to no end.

If I feel that your product is over prices then I should be allowed to down vote your product. Its too bad about the trolls, really, but trolls are trolls and there's nothing you can do about it. If you really think that they shouldn't allow ratings based on price then they should also remove all the reviews that I got for purposely overpricing my own files.

you happen to know the amount of work put into those skins?
i dont overprice my mods, i put the tag on the amount of time and effort put into it.
The fact those skins use less than half the stock ipb skin image count speaks volumes..... a Lot of work went into them.
its not a simple remake of an older skin, not even a simple remake of stock.
and if that is your reasoning.... why is it the Bundle that costs a fair bit less is rated poorly, when the skins separately total $50, not $35?
That is a discount bundle pack.... not an overpricing.

Yes, I do know how much effort goes into making a skin. For 3.2 I've made about five or six skins so far. However, you should never go in with the expectation that you will be adequately appreciated for your work. Humans on the internet are basically the scum of humanity. They expect to have everything handed to them for free and they retaliate when they don't get their way. If you're going to put time and effort into something on the internet then your first expectation should be that you will be insulted and put down and disrespected. So don't let the row ratings get to you. Just because you put a lot of effort into something and feel you deserve to be appreciated doesn't change the fact that a spoiled brat doesn't like your price tag. You can't appeal to everyone so you're better off appealing to yourself and the people who actually respect you. Like me. :3

Why in the name of all unholies can we rate our OWN submissions?
I never do.... but I see that I can..... that isn't right.

Ratings are worthless mp item evaluators.
We can rate our own files, and trolls can spam bad ratings simply by the price tag, without even purchasing/using the item.
The ratings system in IPD is quite easily and frequently abused as it is now.

Contributors can charge $80 for an importable bad word list. They can release a modification and never support it again and the customer is screwed because "copyright" (lol) prevents others from upgrading those modifications. They can charge renewal fees for support on the product.
The entire marketplace is just broken. And you know what sucks? IPS can't do anything about it without someone getting unreasonably shorthanded. So the best you can do is suck it up and let things continue on the downward spiral. I have no idea how the situation can be improved. "Money" ruins everything.

the unreasonable greed for money ruins everything.
I appreciate the MP Immensely here.
There are trolls on the "Contributor" side as well...(I have a little black book of "bad" skinners i tell my clients to avoid, and WITH REASON(incompetence... plain and simple, should not be allowed to skin anything at all)).
That should not be a pivotal reason for that statement...
Just seeking some damage control for the Legitimate, Clean, Respectable Modders/Skinners that support their work.

Anyway back to the main topic, since we've established that ratings are pointless now can we remove them from the marketplace?

I should not be able to rate my files.
if it is a paid item, the purchase should be made before rating is allowed.
