It's obvious that IPS is better than xenforo because IPS has been around for a lot longer and is on there 3rd version while xenforo was just released in 2010 so obviously IPS will have more features than xenforo.

If Keir had put all these features that you want in version 1.1 then xenforo would be a thousand times greater than IPS, but if he did that then he wouldn't have anything to add in future versions.

Comparing version numbers of different software does not make a software superior against the other one... just sayin'..

It would appear to be personal preference to me, but to stick my 2pence worth in the mix......
www.talkaudio.co.uk used to be a joomla site, with a gallery2  gallery, a VB3.x forum, openad ad system, some seriously funky bridgin software and custom coding. It was a nightmare to keep up to date.
Now, all on IPB, I couldnt be happier - and despite the views from *many* people that IPcontent (in the version available when migrated) couldnt match Joomla, we ran with it anyway. You only have to look at it to see it is a rather pretty site, and thats just a recoloured standard skin, with a customised IPcontent layout!
IPB is probably the most powerful community tool I have ever had to work with,  but it is kept well up to date, it appears to be very secure (can anyone remember the version of VB wher eyou could search for the DB username and password? ) and the support we receive when needed is 2nd to none.
As for xenforo - its a newborn product - I would want to see several releases before even entertaining looking at it.

In short - if you want a stable, secure and supported product - the IPB is the only way to go.

xF is not a waste of money, remember that it is a young and perhaps become a suiteto improve communities, which only offers a unique forum, which is very good

I used the demo and I really think it's wonderful and amazing the ACP their systems.

i dont agree with Aisha's statement in full, but the docs and support forums are present.
and IPC is Extremely capable... the entire wealth of IPB API behind it.
if the user wont go bother to look at how to do XYZ after being shown it..... i don't have much to say...

not sure about XF, but if you have a big community than in IPB youw ill certainly have a high load issues which you don't have in vB.

My friend's community in vB can handle like 300 users/online at a time and with like tons of post in shared hosting but same thing for me in IPB cannot.

My account got suspended twice in shared, with just 9500 posts and around 70 active users in past 30 minutes. Currently spending 25$ just for VPS. Currently uses around 512 MB of RAM constantly.

If i would have a big community and tight budget, next time my impression would be going with vB

What certain snarky individual might you be referring to?  It hasn't been that long ago that I went through the technical support forum for IPB and answered a ton of 0 reply threads that had not been attended to for days by others.

The last time I checked it's missing more [crucial] features than freeware like phpBB. I'm not sure why you would spend $140 for a software when you can get a better one for free.

Where did the TC mention it was a high traffic forum? I got the impression that s/he was just starting out, in which case anything besides shared hosting is usually overkill.

Anyway, quit fighting! I wrote this post and got a lot of great feedback. Xenforo is great, not a waste of money.

I have decided to go with IP.Board, IP.Blog, IP.Nexus and IP.Content.

The reason wasn't because IP.Board was better or faster, but because Xenforo can't provide the community I am looking for. Also because IP.Nexus takes care of the subscription base upgrades and downgrades as well as AUTHORIZE.NET!

Once I have my site up and running, I'll post the domain in this thread. Thanks guys for converting me!

I used to be a PROUD vB owner, till the recent events from Internet Brands turned me off from them. I am also looking to start up several more forums with various niches and community aims.

As I currently own a forum (vB) and currently utilize their Albums & Blog, Xenforo is NOT for me on my existing community. So for that community I am opting for IPS, and am really hoping that they make me happy, but even if they do not, I will still like them better then as they are not nearly as evil, lol. Either way, none of the free forums out there offer what vB & IPS do, NONE OF THEM. So if you are wanting more then just a base forum, then for the most part the two choices are vB or IPS, and from the looks of things, IPS does offer more and if money is not an issue, then this is mostly likely the route you will want to take.

HOWEVER, I also just started a community using Xenforo, because the entire scope of that community will never be more then the forum itself. At least one of the other forums I plan on starting will be Xenforo as well, because the rest of the site is already set up and I just want the added community aspect. Xen is a new fledgling board with massive room for improvement... once they get outta court with vB expect change & growth!

Two other potential forums I may start within the year are still up in the air in how I want them and what aspects will be needed for them, but I can tell you, it'll either be IPB, or Xenforo!
