Hi All,

First time forum owner (soon to be).

I just want to know if this will be a problem on a hosted IPS solution

Quote

suhosin.post.max_vars (4096 or better recommended)...WARNING
Your value: 1000. Can prevent some forms (especially in the ACP) from saving properly.

suhosin.request.max_vars (4096 or better recommended)...WARNING
Your value: 1000. Can prevent some forms (especially in the ACP) from saving properly.

suhosin.post.max_value_length (1000000 or better recommended)...Pass

suhosin.request.max_value_length (1000000 or better recommended)...Pass

suhosin.request.max_varname_length (350 or better recommended)...WARNING
Your value: 64. Can prevent long friendly URLs from loading correctly.

I have spoken to my host and they have stated that at this stage they are not willing to bring the specs up to meet the minimum requirements as suggested by IPS.

The hosting package which I have had and let sit dormant for a while has the following stats....
  • 20GB Storage
  • Unlimited Data Transfer
  • 3 x cPanel accounts with WHM Access
  • Unlimited Domain Aliases
  • Unlimited Addon Domains
  • Unlimited POP3/IMAP Email
  • Unlimited MySQL Databases
  • PHP 5 / MySQL 5
  • Php.ini modifications / memory_limit of 32Mb
  • cPanel Control Panel
  • Linux Server
  • Ironport Anti-spam / Anti-virus
  • 24/7 Phone and Email
If my hosting solution is not up to scratch, I would like to know before taking the plunge with IPS.

I don't see this as being a high traffic forum by any means, it will only be used as a support and promotional base for my existing business http://www.vapebar.com.au however will be hosted on a separate domain at http://www.ejuice.com.au/forum/

Any help for a forum n00b would be greatly appreciated.

My host has resolved this issue now, so no roadblocks or barriers left that I can see.

Without changing the vars as recommended, you may run into a problem.  That is not to say that you definitely will, just that we have encountered customers who have in the past.

For those first 2 suhosin settings, having a low value can cause some of the ACP forms to not submit properly.  The most common case is the permission matrixes available in the ACP to specify permissions.  If you have a lot of permission masks or a lot of forums, there could potentially be more than 1000 checkboxes on the page (this is an extreme case, as you can imagine, but does come up).  If you were to hit that scenario, and submitted the form, suhosin would block the request which ultimately would not allow you to save the permissions properly in the ACP.  This is why the recommended value is provided (which is the default value as I recall).

The last suhosin setting, as it mentions, could cause FURLs to not function properly.  This page has a FURL title of "is-this-going-to-be-a-problem", which is 29 characters.  If the FURL title were, instead, "omg-this-is-a-very-long-furl-title-to-illustrate-the-example-that-is-provided" then your server would not allow the page to load with the value being at 64.  Again, this may or may not come up for you, but we try to provide you with all of the information necessary to ensure the software functions optimally and that your server does not prevent features from working as designed.

Thanks for your detailed response, you have given me a greater understanding.

As it stands now, I have purchased IP.board and IP.chat, just trying to fumble my way through an install after not being able to get the auto install to work.

My host changes the suhosin settings to be as they need to. But my host also bumped the memory back down to 28m but a lengthy back and forth has fixed that now

Wish me luck
