IP.Chat free is a 5 user limit. When I purcahase IPB I intend to get 50 slots but that is irrelevent to this question. My question is, does the user limit include staff. Eg. If I had the 5 user limit, and 5 users were online and no staff were logged in, would we still be able to moderate the chat and ensure everyone is following rules?

Also would like to ask, the chat is 100% hosted by IPS correct? That means it creates no toll on my web host to have users chatting since it wont use my hosts server resources?

Correct, chat is hosted by us.

And chat users includes staff.  It includes any user in the room.

So how would chat moderation work if the chat room was full?

You don't have to be actively "in" the chat room to be able to moderate it. You can log ALL of the chat and then review the logs if you get complaints (Admin [or any approved moderators] can login to the Admin Control Panel and search through the chat logs).

That's how we used to do it on CycleChat. If we then found someone had abused the chat facility we would remove their ability to access it.

It is very difficult to moderate chat on a "live" basis - you would need round-the-clock supervision - which, in reality, isn't always practical.

It's a good chat system though - have you tried the IPS demo? or maybe even tried it here on the IPS community site?

Cheers,
Shaun :D

Hi new here . Id like to know if personal messaging within chat is able to be seen by admin and logged with the rest of chat or is it kept private.

Thanks.

It is logged with the rest of the chats.  It is important that the administrator be able to review the private chats if the need arises.  However, by default, when an admin views the chat logs only "public" chats are shown (e.g. the administrator has to specifically toggle a button to see private chats).

Thank you everyone for the information :D.

Also, does the chat have an "ignore" feature for users to ignore a specific user?

If the room was full say, without any staff in the chat room, Staff or anyone else trying to access the room would see an error message telling them the chat room is full, and they cannot join until a member leaves the chat room, they can still moderate the chat room by simply browsing through the chat logs to see what is being discussed, this can be done without being in IP chat, it's done through the ACP or Admin Control Panel, from there, you could ban a member from the chat, or add warning points, or any punishment / warning you feel neccesary. :)
