Dear,
I am currently managing a large forum using vBulletin with the following details:
Forum app: vBulletin 4.x
Visitor per 15 minutes: 16,000-20,000
Database size: 44GB
Threads: 175,231
Posts: 11,872,665
Members: 426,891
Alexa Rank:
Under #5,000 in Global
Statistic on Google Analytics:
1,624,483 people visited this site
3,526,787 Visits
1,624,483 Unique Visitors
20,192,479 Pageviews
5.73 Pages/Visit
00:07:27 Avg. Time on Site
46.17% Bounce Rate
39.12% % New Visits
Servers:
7 webservers
5 database servers (2 masters, 3 slaves), each server uses RAID 10, and both master servers back each other up if there is a system failure.
Total: 12 servers
With the given data above, I believe you could imagine how large our forum is. For some reasons, we are considering to move that forum from vBulletin to IP.Board, and here some questions come along following the plan:
1. Does IP.Board support database scaling?
2. If it does support database scaling, how does it manage the scaling?
For example, in vBulletin, it manages the database by separating the servers for writing and reading data.
FYI, I am also your customer for another forum with 1,200 average users per 15 minutes.
Sincerely,
Argi Karunia

What you are describing is more or less the sort of setup we use for our enterprise hosting clients that we host ourselves
