Right now it's just way too much of a hassle especially because of this bug.

While I don't see how that bug is related, I would also want easier image cover selection.

It's related because the only way to change the cover image is in the edit album page (as far as I know).While I don't see how that bug is related, I would also want easier image cover selection.
And how do I change the cover image of a container album (an album that only allows other albums, no images)? x.x

I don't even know how to set the cover image of any album except for uploading a new image.

As far as I know the only way to change an album cover image is when you're uploading images you have an option to set an image as the cover image. This is hopeless. You should just be able to go on to the page showing the image and in the image moderation options be able to select that image as the cover image. You also should be able to do it when you're looking at the album thumbnails by placing a checkmark in the moderation box.

Cover image selection doesn't even work reliably as part of the image upload process, as I first reported over 7 months ago: http://community.inv...-on-new-albums/
I've resorted to manually changing the cover image ID in the database if I want to set a particular cover - though this usually has to be redone if any further images are uploaded to the same album.

I've had similar bug issues as well and I agree the cover image controls that 3DKiwi mentioned should be there.

I just tried this and after uploading a new image to the album, it reset the cover image to first cover...I've resorted to manually changing the cover image ID in the database if I want to set a particular cover - though this usually has to be redone if any further images are uploaded to the same album.

.... omg.What sort options do you have for this album? It will pick a cover image based on the first result returned from the album's sort options.
OK... here's the problem, and listen well.
We don't WANT the Cover image based on album sort order..... we want to be able to easily select it and it STAY.
same for "featured"... why is that random anything?

EDIT: Just changed the sort order and lo and behold, it does indeed control the cover image...amazing.
Well, only sort of. The various sort order options combined with ascending and descending mean that you still may not be able to pick the image you want as the cover image. IPS just need to listen to what users are telling them is wrong with the gallery and do something about it.

I don't believe it was ever IPS's intention that the cover image only be selectable by the sort order. If it was, why invite the user to pick an image to use as the cover during the upload process in the full knowledge their selection will have no effect? That makes no sense.
Perhaps this was meant to be temporary behaviour until the cover selection process was properly implementeted, but like many features of Gallery 4, it was simply left unfinished.

Please allow mods to choose which photo is the cover of the members album
include in the options drop down, set as cover photo for members album

Well I could get used to the cover image changing to the newest uploaded image...
But seriously they should change it.
Totally agree that it needs to be changed. If someone uploads an inappropriate image (best case they put the wrong image in the wrong gallery and confuse new members regarding what that album is for, worst case it's a vile spammer that does something like upload child porn!
) in a global album I do not NOT NOT want that becoming the cover image for the global album!James
