As an example, this is one of my news posts:
http://www.talkford....review-roadtest
And this is what's duplicated in the forum:
http://www.talkford....-s-10-ecoboost/
Note there is no image. It'd look much better if the original article could be duplicated with the image. Or have a forum which links to the articles database (eg, http://www.talkford....page/index.html) but which also shows if comments have been posted (last post by...).

The posting in the forum though is automated by IP.Content. How would I implement that?

As long as you have the articles set to post to the forums go to Article Image field and add the above it will pull the article image along with the article although you may have to work on the template to get to look exactly like the article

As tenaki explained, you have to edit the field in the ACP (My Apps -> Content -> Article Fields -> Article Image) and set the "Topic Format" option. This allows you to control which fields are included in the topic and which aren't, and allows you to "format" them, just as you format custom profile fields showing in topics in the user info pane on the left.

I've asked for canonical tags, and about a year ago I remember making some tweaks to IP.C so that it would link to the topic with a canonical on the link.
Having the entire site interconnected and using the forums as the discussion engine is absolutely the way to go IMO, it pulls all the community interaction into a single place instead of fragmenting it into multiple mutually exclusive stovepipes. BUT you need to be careful to identify WHICH version of the content is the original, canonical version so that you avoid spreading the page weight across multiple instances.
