Thank you for keeping us updated with the upcoming features of IP.Gallery 5. I have just read the recent blog entry about IP.Gallery 5. The notification enhancements paragraph is very important to me and therefore I have a question regarding this topic.
As I understand it, the image uploader gets notified when someone comments on the image. But does also a comment writer (who is not the image uploader) get notified when someone else writes another comment for that image?
So I would like that anybody who interacts with an image, should be notified when something new happens, just like it is working with forum topics, right now.

Hey I made this exact same topic just worded differently. The answer will be that the commenter should just follow the image which isn't what we want. We want it to happen automatically. Additionally quoting a comment should always send a notification at the very least.

At this time, commenters are not automatically subscribed to the item they comment on. Keep in mind, the commenting system is suite-wide - it is not specific to Gallery, and this sort of functionality would need to be implemented into the comment system itself (which is used by IP.Downloads, IP.Content, IP.Blog, IP.Calendar, the report center, and so on).
It is something we have/are discussing internally, but it's not something that will be implemented only in IP.Gallery when/if it is done.

Yes this is needed, or members never check back. The comments is a conversation so notification should work like status updates where you can select to be notified of comments on your own images, or your comments on others' images, etc.
