This is a request for more detailed tax classes within the United States.

Many states in the US have regional taxes that get added on top of the base state tax. These regional tax percentages vary from location to location. As somebody who sells items into those regions, I need to collect those taxes.

Currently, IP.Nexus only allows me to charge tax on a state-by-state basis. I know I could charge people (state tax rate)+(average regional rate), but this is unacceptable and unfair to those who would be charged more in some cases, depending on where they live.

Two possible solutions I can think of:

1) Allow an admin to manually setup tax regions within each state.

or

2) Allow IP.Nexus to automatically connect to a database somewhere which lists all the available "nexus tax rates". I'm not an expert on these, but I believe there are both paid and free services which list these.

Thanks :)

Do you have a link to anywhere where I can read more about this?

Thanks, Mark. Here's are some API's which will generate the proper tax value based on a user's zip code.

Taxcloud (a free solution!): https://taxcloud.net/default.aspx
or
Strikeiron (paid): http://www.strikeiro...se Tax Complete
or
accuratetax (paid): http://www.accuratetax.com/

Let me know if you need a beta tester. :) This is a big deal for my community.

Here's a good thread on PalPal's forums where somebody brought up the same issue I have. At the time of this thread, PayPal also didn't offer a good solution and recommended getting a 3rd party app to do it.

To my knowledge, New York, California, and Texas all have variable regional tax rates. Determining region from the shipping address is not necessarily straightforward. I don't know the specifics of when they apply; I assume it depends on where the seller is located.

Actually it depends on where the buyer is... Quite complicated, which is why integration with a free service like tax cloud would be so powerful!

Hmm, taxcloud sure does sound viable given that it has some certifications according to their site.

Feature consistency across IP.Downloads and IP.Board for IP.Content

IPS, please look at the topics I've created regarding feature suggestions. There still are issues that haven't been addressed, as noted above, and the following, as well as this.

Could become REALLY important quickly if this current internet tax bill is snuck through.
