exif time stamp and display time taken

Posted by optrexnz on 20 June 2011 - 11:15 PM

The shot you've taken in exif gives

Date Taken 2011:06:21 07:27:19

compared to display within IPB Gallery of

Taken: Jun 21 2011 19:27

this is adding 12 hours onto the time take - is it taking profile time as we are NZ +12 hours?

We need it to show the actual time take ie

Date Taken 2011:06:21 07:27:19

The "Date Taken" and the date IP.Gallery displays will always be different though as the former is when the picture was taken and the second is when it was uploaded to IP.Gallery.

The date is obtained from the "DateTime" EXIF attribute, as it is stored. So the time is relative to whatever timezone the camera was set to.

Thats NOT what I am seeing. As you can see from the screen shot. Date taken and taken are 12 hours out. This is different to the uploaded time, which as you can see if shown under "uploaded" not "taken".

The example I've given you he took the photo at 10:08 he uploaded it at 10:14 but gallery says it was taken at 22:08, which is wrong.

Hmm..

@optrexnz: report the tracker bug about hiding the text in the other project so Alex can look into it please :)

Interesting to note here - 22:08 *IS* 10:08 ... PM.  Perhaps the EXIF data is not showing the AM/PM marker?  Or is Gallery making an assumption about the DateTaken format?  Just something to keep in mind I suppose.

Yeah I noticed that too, it's strange..

As I recall, no date processing is done on EXIF time. It simply displays the string given for that variable so any time zone processing will be via the camera.

I am having the same issue...date taken in the image properties is 5 hours off from date taken in the gallery?

Even the metadata in the database shows the correct time taken, put it is displaying in the gallery as taken 5 hours later.

We're running it through getDate() in class localization which would apply the viewer's time zone offset.  That's of course the reason for the difference.
