#2265668 Upgrading to 3.3.2 - Could not have had better help

Posted Stenis on 10 May 2012 - 09:43 AM

Yesterday morning I upgraded my 3.2.3 board to 3.3.2 with all the latest addons. Even though I waited for a couple of maintenance releases before upgrading to a new major version there were some issues and questions raised.

This resulted in 7 support tickets which in turn resulted in a couple of problems solved by IPS, three resulting bug reports in the Tracker and the rest I could solve myself after getting the solution from IPS and/or being pointed.in the right direction.

So what I am saying is that after less than 24 hours I have been able to get not only quick but also very precise support which has made my board the way I want it to be. Many thanks for the great support and also the great product upgrades. Looking forward to what's coming next :)

Now I have to worry that invision will decide to maybe charge for the mobile skin in the next release

We're not going to do that. So worry no more.

#2263081 App now available

Posted surferboy on 04 May 2012 - 01:16 PM

Hmm, I am so confused.

There is a mobile skin that comes with the default product. Fact.

There are other mobile skins available from skinners for a price. Fact.

There are at least two "mobile apps" already in the marketplace that cost forum owners nothing but they do cost the users money. TapaTalk and ForumRunner. Fact.

Now there are three "mobile apps" in the marketplace that cost forum owners nothing but they do cost the users money. TapaTalk, ForumRunner, and IPS. Fact.

The cost for the IPS app is $1.99. The cost for the TapaTalk app is $4.99. The cost for the ForumRunner app is $0 (read only) or $1.99 (full version). Fact.

Mobile Skin <--> Mobile App: two different animals. What in the world is the issue? Would it make everyone feel better if IPS started a subsidiary, maybe called 'TalkWalk' that sold the mobile app? Then it is just another company selling a mobile app product in the marketplace ...

As for me, I am very excited that IPS has this product in house because I am hoping for the white label version where I might be able to offer the app to our premium, paid members for free.  I can't do that with TapaTalk or ForumRunner. All I can do for those two mobile apps is buy the white label and give it to our members for free.

Estimated cost of white label product from IPS? Unknown. Fact.  Suggested $1,000 price tag? Speculation by one person.

Because the upshot of this issue is, a good deal of people won't be as technologically savvy as those who've posted here. They'll copy and paste something, it'll either post as a mess, or it'll look a mess in preview, the user doesn't really know how to or can't be bothered to make all the amendments, and decides not to bother posting or worse.

#2252235 IPB support feedback

Posted PW Nowe on 09 April 2012 - 04:48 PM

I believe that they are still open at this point. Tickets marked Mission critical (site offline, inaccessible for reasons not related to hosting, miscellaneous issues that are causing the site to be down, etc) are generally handled first. If you're is marked mission critical, it may also receive after-hours support. I don't know the exact time frame for Mission critical tickets, but I would assume under 24 hours.

Furthermore, it would help and be much faster if you gave the following information within your ticket, so they don't have to stop and ask:

Admin ID:
Admin Password:
FTP URL:
FTP Username:
FTP Password:

Just an FYI.

#2240721 IP.Tracker, please IPS...

Posted Charles on 14 March 2012 - 05:01 PM

I think we have a lot of confusion and differing information here. I hope I can clarify for everyone...

IP.Tracker is indeed an IPS product. It is one of our "extras" that come along with a license. The concept of "in house" is not really being accurately applied here but that is irrelevant to most everyone I am sure.

Alex, who is a member of our staff, is the core developer of this project. He has many duties here at IPS so I would rather not have anyone blaming him personally. I often have him doing many things in addition to IP.Tracker of course and we have not been making IP.Tracker a high priority while we focus on IP.Board 3.3's development. IP.Tracker, along with our other apps, we completely agree are due for an update very soon after IP.Board 3.3 (don't forget we use all our own stuff so we know too). We simply planned our development schedule around IP.Board 3.3 as that is the "core" that our apps run under. As I am sure you will agree: the better the core the better the app!

We will certainly evaluate IP.Tracker in the very near future and let everyone know what our plans for it will be. The same is true for our other applications. IP.Board 3.3 is coming out very, very soon so expect a whole load of updates soon after.

#2226542 Hats off again to the entire IPB Staff and Support

Posted R1-Limited on 30 January 2012 - 08:40 PM

I may not be the brightest star in the cosmos, but one of the best things I ever did was move from VB to IPB

7 plus cases in support all closed in the past 24 hours and all of these issues was either caused by being brain dead or well being dumb and not paying attention.

Bar Non, IPB stands on its own simply form the outstanding support the team has.  Let alone the software which I have seen grow termendously BECAUSE THEY LISTEN TO THE COMPLAINTS.  I started on 3.1.2 and now am Beta testing as I was invited to do so.  I thnk it is they know I can really screw things up so I am a great beta tester

Anyway, Thaks you Jason, Andrew, Ryan and if I missed any one, THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU.

It all started when I had an idea for a new site.  Instead of just using IPB, I setup Joomla with Community Builder thinking I could make a go out of it.  The competing site uses almost the same software although we established the site differently, it soon became appeartn, many were not gogin to join simply because of the Joomla software an the bad experiance on the site.

So I opted to move to IPB, Painfully I made mistakes, suffered loss time and i know a dozen or more postential members during the past week.

IPB Dug me out of the hole in great time and i am happy to say http://www.flattrackers.com is online and ready to show its stuff.

What we are? We are an inspired site dedicated to the art of Flat Track Racing and its History. From the early board track racing years to present we will be covering it all. The History, the stories, the champions it is all part of this great yet sadly diminishing sport.

Our goal? To be the face book of Flat Tracking to bring a new vibrancy and audience to share and remissness of the golden years. About the men who battled the dirt ovals on Indians, Harleys, BSA, Triumphs and anything that would resemble a motorcycle. There is a rich, vast history to this sport, with each AMA District boasting its own National Champions Like Gentlemen Joe Leonard the very first GNC champion out of Dist36 and the world famous King Kenny Roberts also of Dist36 heritage. We invite all who have enjoyed the sport, made it what it is, former champs and upcoming champs, fans and racers this site is for you, let get it going.

Join us and contribute to our forums, help us chronicle and share the great history of Flat Tracking. The families, the life long buddies those epic battles all have a need to be shared.

THANK YOU IPB

#2232092 IP.Board 3.1.x and Applications: End of Life Announcement

Posted IPS News on 17 February 2012 - 11:37 AM

IP.Board 3.1.x and Applications: End of Life Announcement

So that we can focus all of our development, support, and service efforts on the newest version 3.3, we are announcing the end of support (sometimes called end of life or EOL) for the following IPS software versions (and earlier versions):
  • IP.Board 3.1.x
  • IP.Blog 2.2.x
  • IP.Gallery 3.2.x
  • IP.Downloads 2.2.x
  • IP.Content 2.0.x
  • IP.Chat 1.1.x
  • IP.Nexus 1.1.x
Technical support, installations, and services will end for these products on August 1, 2012. On that date all technical or service requests will be advised to simply upgrade to the most recent versions of the products. We will not force upgrades but will also not be able to diagnose issues or answer questions relating to the older software. Also, on that date, IPS will no longer address any new issues or bugs reported in the older software versions.

You are of course free to continue using these older versions if you wish but IPS will no longer provide assistance after the EOL date.

Security Updates

In the event an issue is discovered impacting the security of these older versions of the software, IPS will provide a patch posted in our announcements forum. We will continue to provide security updates for several months after the EOL date based on severity of the issue.

Internet Explorer 7 Support

We announced our plans to start phasing out support for Internet Explorer 7 in December 2010 and have been slowly doing so. As of this date, IPS will no longer support Internet Explorer 7. This includes compatibility modes in newer browsers.

If I'm not mistaken, he had to wait on 3.3 which made some changes to better identify which strings are out of date.

#2217080 Only 'customer' accounts can post in IPS Company Blog

Posted Lindy on 04 January 2012 - 02:01 PM

I'm perpetually baffled why this remains an issue for you. You own the primary account - if you would like the primary account holder benefits, simply login as the primary account holder, which you can easily do, but choose not to -- for whatever reason. You're logging in as an alternate contact (the only alternate contact on your account) of your own account, which again, is baffling to me. Nonetheless, it is an alternate contact not a pseudo-client. I do understand that's what you're after and you're committed to taking a stand on the issue. It's something we may consider for the future, but for now, the alternate contact infrastructure is based on allowing a client to have their technician or billing representative contact us on their behalf and does not support what you're asking for - reworking that system is not an immediate priority.

Thanks for your understanding and I hope we can put this issue to rest for now as there are no immediate changes planned.

Alternate contacts are just that, Alternate Contacts.. They are not the customer, so they shouldn't have the same privileges as the customer them selves... They are able to post in the Technical Areas where they have been authorized and open tickets for the products they have been authorized to do so with
