Sometimes I wonder whether they think about their customers who have huge boards over the customers who do this as a part time hobby with a 5-10 member base.
Seriously, a decision like that could ruin someone's online income.
Here comes the "you didnt have to upgrade brigade"
If there is one thing I hate about IP is their 'upgrade or get left behind attitude'. I requested help to solve a problem with gallery 3. The response I got was basically a quick flick: "Yeah we fixed it, but you're going to have to upgrade to gallery 4 if you want it". Thanks for nothing IP. This bug was causing many comments to show HTML. I hate gallery 4... however I couldn't let the gallery to be filled of html code and my members were complain about seeing it. So I did upgrade... yeah it fixed the problem but I don't like the new gallery and it took sometime before members stopped complaining about the change. I regret upgrading the gallery, I should have just used an image upload extension.
And now this editor upgrade... very disappointed that they have not supplied any means of switching off the new editor to use the old(don't bother saying there is a switch icon, I know about it... I wrote this reply with the new editor switched off. It is hardly functional compared to the old.). Don't get me wrong, I'm not a IP hater (I like the software over many others). But you haven't exactly been impressing me since 3.1 and gallery 3.
PLEASE IP! Listen to your customers and provide alternate options for those not interested in opting-in to upgrades like this. Just because your wish to move in a direction doesn't mean your customers do. You need to involve your customers in the decisions you make. I'm afraid if IP keeps doing this in the future... I will no longer be a customer(but then, it's not like you guys really care if one person leaves... as long as your bank balances look good eh?).
Man I even had to switch it back to write this reply because the editor wasn't showing the IBeam and wouldn't do returns.
And don't say 'you didn't have to upgrade' because IP IS practically forcing you to. They won't provide good support to people running old versions(they simply tell you to upgrade) and if you want your board to stay up-to-date with security... you have to upgrade. I don't care if IP replies to this, all I would like is for this to be least acknowledged from my perspective.

It would almost look like the conspiracy remark made here or another thread tongue in cheek, might have validity. "Things were stripped so modders could make money off replacing them?" or something like that. Gone are the days of doing it for the community, enter the "Market" I had a bad feeling when I saw the title of that section.
So far I have spent more time chasing down and replacing or trying to learn how to fix them on my own, than I have enjoying the software.
I still have, pictures that break the layout (even though my settings are the same as they have always been) Photobucket slide shows that no longer work, we just figured out how to get mp4's from photobucket to play. Some people are still struggling with that one. But I have it working on mine and trying to share (for free) how it was done. I'm sure as soon as someone sees the "need" for a mod to fix it they will be so kind as to rush out a $5-$10 fix for everyone else.
My Facebook status connection stopped working, no one can figure out why. Disabled mods and 3rd party apps and it still fails to work unless you do it 2 or 3 times and then it works, posts your status to Facebook and kicks you to your profile page. Gonna be fun figuring that one out.
Upgrade? I think the term was used loosely. Sorry, I'm ranting again. I need to spend this time fixing up my once smoothly running forum for my members to enjoy.

I have no other solution.
This is the first version of IPB - I'll wait first skins - and then update
Skinners will rub their hands with money

It looks like someone threw all items at random.
We have 4 bars now (indicated above 1-4)
Each bar has a different color.
Why two searches? On a top of it they look totally different. Why the 1st search has a search button with "search logo" and the other has a search button with word "Search"?
What was the reason to create bar #4 just for 3 links?
#4 is a bar, not a part of categories, so why it's not same width as a header instead of being lined up with categories? Why it doesn't have a header like color instead of categories color?

That's simply not the case. We've listened to what our customers have told us and 3.2 is the result of that.
I do not think customers have said they removed online / offline status.
It's for me a step back and I like ipb because of the functions and not because they have copied the look of facebook, or because they remove features. I no longer have to use many reasons IPB! I wish that existing features are retained and developed further, but do not remove easily. This development is not in order, and leads to many annoyance of my customers and my members, not only with me.

And there lies the rub. Small adjustment? It has taken a YEAR for my users to get fairly comfortable with the change from vBulletin to IPB. These are not "small" changes, nor would I expect these kind of changes in a minor revision release.
And before Charles jumps in about "not getting hung up on version numbers", I'd suggest looking at virtually every other software company out there and what is usually considered minor version releases vs major releases and the changes that occur with them. This was not a minor update. This was a major revision I would expect from a major upgrade (ie, 3.x to 4.x).
You want specifics? I'll give you specifics. The default skin is STILL geared towards "younger eyes". It's difficult to find things, and one shouldn't have to rely on something to "magically appear" in order to perform a function. What did you guys do? Go look at Xenforo, go "ooooooooooh SHINY!" and copy some stuff? If we had been that impressed with the stuff Kier was doing, we'd have gone with that package.
Bah. You do what you need to do. However, if the software continues on in the current direction that it's taking, I suspect I won't be the only one looking for a different solution.

Because that default skin needs to sell. While you may have the time and knowledge to sit down and redesign your site, there are many who do not. I should not have to buy a software package and be told to redesign it when I buy it.
There are many here with that mind set, and that mind set is what gets companies into trouble. I should not have to redesign anything "out of the box". It should be visually appealing and usable as soon as it's brought on line. As far as I'm concerned, this was lost with 3.2.

I'm sorry. While I can understand the need to change and innovate, there's such a thing as taking it too far and trying to cram too much into one version change. And, IMO, in doing so, the product has taken a step backward in usability as well as not being visually friendly at all.

Its just people that can't handle change very well, or don't like change. Happens every time. If companies did exactly what their customers wanted, then nothing would ever get done. Sometimes you have to just go with it.
But it doesn't mean that the change is for the better! Some of the changes that have taken place in 3.2 are for the worse IMO.

One problem I have with IPS at the moment is that I don't know on what "studies & statistics" they base their decisions on. When we were talking about the removed topic descriptions Charles told us that the majority of people didn't use them. Well, this may well be, but I still thought that there would be some kind of official poll or anything like that.
Apart from that, I'm not quite sure if I'll renew my license and upgrade to IP.Board 3.2 or use another software in the future. It now heavily depends on IP.Content. If it's still only usable by myself and my users don't get it because it's too complicated for them I'll leave IPS behind.
