bing email ref map service - gallery maps ?
09 May 2012 - 11:44 AM
is it just me or has anyone else who signed up for bings map service for the gallery had a email reference the trial is over and now need to upgrade?
suggestion - ease of use on first look
09 May 2012 - 11:25 AM
got a non tech family member to run out the ipad app
first suggestions
1. on the first run its not very user friendly having blank text boxes and then having to type in urls
suggestion:
have a list of sites display that have been submitted by customers via this site - with a search if needed
am sure there used to be something like this before ?
2. no difference in the notification that the url is incorrect or if the site is not compatible
was a turn off spending a fair few minutes entering different combinations of the url - did it need the root, the forum url or was it just that the site wouldn't work with the app
suggestion
a simple "site not compatible" error message would lessen the frustration and increase the usability

suggestion - improved performance of listing templates
17 April 2012 - 04:45 PM
found was getting page loads of 3-5 seconds on listing pages when large articles were present with the default frontpage and archive templates
seems this was caused by the large articles being parsed by php in order to carry out truncate and strip tags etc to extract a teaser
would say that maybe such slow page loads could be avoided by using the teaser paragraph if present, rather than parsing the complete article_body

suggestion - revert sphinx to a module ?
16 April 2012 - 02:51 PM
as it says
the theory behind it is
if done, all the current search, vnc, tags etc could be done via the mysql search engine
heavy lifting searches of forum, gallery etc could be done if wish via a separate sphinx moudle
pros
less development time spent on providing two mixed up search systems for each application - just one site wide module
less maintenance as once set up, as the module is stand alone,it shouldn't require much looking after during upgrades as the current system
allow sphinx searching of all invision applications
allow across all or selected application searches as in full all in one site searches
instant searching/indexing - have read sphinx can now handle instant addition
i can remember the 3rd party sphinx module, looking back at that and how much simpler and more effective it seemed
it does strike me that the current search setup is not as good as it can be
if no plans then perhaps maybe someone could take up as a paid mod ?

search and archives - say it isnt so
25 March 2012 - 07:50 AM
have tested but am not 100% sure yet
but does seems at first look that the archives are not included in the default forum search (sphinx)
you have to go to advanced search and then tick archive option
if the above is right then can i ask why has it been done this way
if there are separate searches for forum and archive then for my own uses this makes the whole archive feature unusable
please someone tell me that I am wong
