I think the only drawback is IP.Downloads will present the final file size as 0kb to the downloader, simply because it can't check the size of the file(s) that the submission is linking to.

I think I'm right in saying that instead of uploading actual files when creating the submission, IP.Downloads allows you to link to files via URLs instead (so, in your case you could simply use the URL path of the file on your second server). You need to go to ACP > IP.Downloads > (Main) Settings, and ensure the "link to files" settings are set up correctly, and that you're linking to permitted file types.
