#2265668 Upgrading to 3.3.2 - Could not have had better help

Posted Stenis on 10 May 2012 - 09:43 AM

Yesterday morning I upgraded my 3.2.3 board to 3.3.2 with all the latest addons. Even though I waited for a couple of maintenance releases before upgrading to a new major version there were some issues and questions raised.

This resulted in 7 support tickets which in turn resulted in a couple of problems solved by IPS, three resulting bug reports in the Tracker and the rest I could solve myself after getting the solution from IPS and/or being pointed.in the right direction.

So what I am saying is that after less than 24 hours I have been able to get not only quick but also very precise support which has made my board the way I want it to be. Many thanks for the great support and also the great product upgrades. Looking forward to what's coming next :)

#2250741 Making hooks more end-user friendly.

Posted Michael on 05 April 2012 - 05:06 PM

In order to guarantee that IP.Board can write files, the directory it's writing to has to be writable (ie, CHMOD 777).  A lot of the times, the files those hooks have to upload are putting stuff into other directories besides writable ones.

#2226542 Hats off again to the entire IPB Staff and Support

Posted R1-Limited on 30 January 2012 - 08:40 PM

I may not be the brightest star in the cosmos, but one of the best things I ever did was move from VB to IPB

7 plus cases in support all closed in the past 24 hours and all of these issues was either caused by being brain dead or well being dumb and not paying attention.

Bar Non, IPB stands on its own simply form the outstanding support the team has.  Let alone the software which I have seen grow termendously BECAUSE THEY LISTEN TO THE COMPLAINTS.  I started on 3.1.2 and now am Beta testing as I was invited to do so.  I thnk it is they know I can really screw things up so I am a great beta tester

Anyway, Thaks you Jason, Andrew, Ryan and if I missed any one, THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU.

It all started when I had an idea for a new site.  Instead of just using IPB, I setup Joomla with Community Builder thinking I could make a go out of it.  The competing site uses almost the same software although we established the site differently, it soon became appeartn, many were not gogin to join simply because of the Joomla software an the bad experiance on the site.

So I opted to move to IPB, Painfully I made mistakes, suffered loss time and i know a dozen or more postential members during the past week.

IPB Dug me out of the hole in great time and i am happy to say http://www.flattrackers.com is online and ready to show its stuff.

What we are? We are an inspired site dedicated to the art of Flat Track Racing and its History. From the early board track racing years to present we will be covering it all. The History, the stories, the champions it is all part of this great yet sadly diminishing sport.

Our goal? To be the face book of Flat Tracking to bring a new vibrancy and audience to share and remissness of the golden years. About the men who battled the dirt ovals on Indians, Harleys, BSA, Triumphs and anything that would resemble a motorcycle. There is a rich, vast history to this sport, with each AMA District boasting its own National Champions Like Gentlemen Joe Leonard the very first GNC champion out of Dist36 and the world famous King Kenny Roberts also of Dist36 heritage. We invite all who have enjoyed the sport, made it what it is, former champs and upcoming champs, fans and racers this site is for you, let get it going.

Join us and contribute to our forums, help us chronicle and share the great history of Flat Tracking. The families, the life long buddies those epic battles all have a need to be shared.

THANK YOU IPB

Posted IPS News on 13 July 2010 - 11:12 AM

Invision Power Services is collecting donations for Autism Speaks using the Donations feature in our upcoming IP.Nexus product. This is a great way to test the development progress of IP.Nexus and collect funds for a good cause. IPS will donate the total amount raised, in addition to our own contribution, to support autism research and support for families. We are sure that our great community of customers will be able to raise funds for this cause and we hope you participate.

About Autism Speaks

Quote

At Autism Speaks, our goal is to change the future for all who struggle with autism spectrum disorders.

We are dedicated to funding global biomedical research into the causes, prevention, treatments, and cure for autism; to raising public awareness about autism and its effects on individuals, families, and society; and to bringing hope to all who deal with the hardships of this disorder. We are committed to raising the funds necessary to support these goals.

Autism Speaks aims to bring the autism community together as one strong voice to urge the government and private sector to listen to our concerns and take action to address this urgent global health crisis. It is our firm belief that, working together, we will find the missing pieces of the puzzle.

Autism Speaks. It's time to listen.

How to Donate

You can donate via the side-bar box on the IPS community index or go to the Donation section in client area.

If anyone wishes to donate directly to Autism Speaks without going through our Donation system we encourage you to do so. If you choose this route and want to be counted in the total donation amount here, please contact Charles with your donation receipt from Autism Speaks.

Thank you for your generosity and support.

#1929585 Ticket Support and Timing

Posted A Walk in Faith on 21 March 2010 - 09:22 AM

Ok, there have been numerous topics talking about how slow support is, and how it takes forever to get anything done.

Well I just had to use a support ticket for the first time I wanted to share my experience with everyone..

I have a IPB site I am working on and will be transferring the site from my vB install to IPB in April. I had an issue yesterday (Saturday) and issued a ticket.

I explained to them this site was in preparation to be transferred in April but I had run into a problem. Here is the run down to response time.

Ticket issued at 10:32pm Saturday night
Their 1st response at 11:30pm Saturday night
My response back at 11:41pm Saturday night
Their 2nd response at 12:04am Sunday morning
My 2nd response at 1:15am Sunday morning
Their 3rd response at 1:44am Sunday morning - Problem solved

Now, all of this happened in a matter of 3 hours and 10 minutes... My site was back up and running. This happened on the weekend on a site that hasn't even gone live yet!

I have to tell you, I am impressed with the way they handled this issue and it makes me feel so much better as a client getting ready to switch my live vB site to IPB in two weeks. I feel or sense a support system backing me and my site.

You guys (IPS support) get rack across the coals all the time for slow responses, so I wanted to share with you a good response! Keep up the great work!

Jamie

#1925664 Thank you Invision Power Services Inc

Posted Owdy on 14 March 2010 - 12:19 PM

I converted from SMF in January (after using it from 2003) and i have to say now that i dont have to look back. All money spent here is well worth it. It took couple of weeks to get used to, but now i love that admin panel etc. I also have issued many tickets and allways got exellent service. Those support people even hack database to fix things, so they really fix them, not just post links to tutorials etc. So thank you and keep up  good work everyone :)

#1926241 Feature Request: Word-wrapping CSS

Posted Alex on 15 March 2010 - 02:12 PM

As per bug report (more feature request though)

Quote

I know by default the word-wrapping is done in the PHP and is also turned off, but can we just use the CSS attribute for .post .entry-content, it's a lot simpler and doesn't need any processing, not sure why this isn't put in (may be a reason)
.entry-content {
word-wrap: break-word;
}

Supported in majority of browsers; MSIE 5.5+, Safari 1.0+, Chrome 1.0+, Firefox 3.5+ and Opera 10.50+.

#1924700 Better permission matrix editor

Posted Paulo Freitas on 12 March 2010 - 05:16 AM

Sounds like a joke, but it isn't. :P
It lacks a better visual aspect to allow easier permissions verification. :)

I wrote this userscript to meet this need: http://userscripts.o...ipts/show/71200

I'll be happier knowing that it will be implemented in the next version. :)

#1927877 Why there is no social groups utillity developed by ips ?

Posted STEWIE on 18 March 2010 - 04:23 AM

yes, i undestand whith the "you can not.. " button, and i will make the changes, but regarding the social groups problem.. all i can say is that  maybe i see a better potential in this addon, i undestand that you think that  social groups are not important, i think you are wrong but that is, you answer my question.Yes i know a user is making a mod for social groups, if you lokk at the page 2 i wrote that i will buy( having no option from ips) but my main concer with this third party mods is with updates, if, let`s say that  i upgrade to ipb 3.5 or 4.8 in the future, how can i be sure that an individual(no real guarantee whatsoever) will make proper updates , and not make me loose money and time?

IPB is superios than vbulletin in many ways but be awere that this thing  that you have  less mods ans more important less options in the official product, is not making a good impresion on costumers.
I, myself  want to start, a big forum, and i had read  and compared vbuletin and ipb weeks and weeks, right now i decided to give a shot to ipb software(because i like the feeling of it) but options made directly by the company are also very important.
I can not understand how you do not find important social groups feature, look at forums.digitalpoint.com which runs vb, and you will see that social groups are important, at least i intend to use it at maximum.

Now let me say a simple feature, but in my opinion very important one, wich you have put it in users post: in the right side there are the + an - icons  at every post  , that feature is very important for a good community, and for quality discussions, i like that feature very much because if you are a dumb person and make stupid coments the community will punish you and your reputation will be .. and in this way quality is improoved.

You did`,t said anything about the gallery isshue, can you make this more friendly in order to see more pictures  without use scroll?

thx for you responses

#1927879 Why there is no social groups utillity developed by ips ?

Posted STEWIE on 18 March 2010 - 04:25 AM

sorry for double post.
And i have a question, is it posibble to give acces to a moderator in admin cp on the forums zone but only on one forum?  because all i found is  give acces to forums area but this will meke him able to edit all the forums, wich some times is wrong and not secure.
To be more clear: i want to make asuper mderator but only on one forum(not category) and this moderator should be able to acces admin cp and make/edit/delete  forums only in that specific one,
can i do that?

#1927919 Why there is no social groups utillity developed by ips ?

Posted STEWIE on 18 March 2010 - 06:05 AM

@ Rikki , are you an ipb official?  please tell me, if you are, it means i can throw away my ipb license, if this is the official response, and the official understand of a community here, i give up..
did you know what a community means?
did you know what the title of the  invision power website is?
"Invision Power - Community Forum, Blog, Gallery, CMS, and more - We are community experts"..

Please, but please confirm or infirm that your opinion is an official one, if so i give away my ipb license ( free/no charge)

#1922160 Template <if> expressions

Posted Luke on 07 March 2010 - 03:30 AM

Your template system doesn't support else if? Did it before? I could have sworn it did at some point. Maybe I'm spoiled with my template system... But it's hard to believe template logic is not complete in IPB's. Perhaps it's because the if/else is converted into ternary operators in the cache files?

Funny things is Charles can't be fired. He's president. And personally, I like the response. It's honest and true, especially after the user is pouting and the support team cannot do anything else because they've done as much as they could (and gone out of their way to try and help out by explaining), and it's not IPS's fault (if it every was) anymore.

Oh, and good luck finding a better company. ;)

Simply put: If your ticket is noncritical, why does it need to be answered so fast? And, if it's marked critical, it will get answered appropriately.

Simply put to you: Issue is they are not delivering what is in black and white on a webpage! It's called getting what you paid for and being provided the opportunity to get services they claim to offer! And no, I'm not waiting a week for any type of response. lol..

A better company? I wasn't using a company before! I think I needed this switch, it's made me open my eyes, that's for sure. I have money to burn and all I can say is paid is not necessarily better. Lesson learned, my bad.

And I didn't say fire him, I said I would fire an employee that said that!
