#2120809 3.2 Rate Topic Stars shoud not be above title (feedback)

Posted Christophe on 10 June 2011 - 01:28 PM

It does not look right to have the rate topic stars before the title or the calendar event or post in terms of usability.
Just looking at this very topic you can see the rate topic...is there any usability reason why this is placed before the title?

#2108407 IPB 3.2: Topic View, User Info

Posted Rikki on 05 May 2011 - 04:08 PM

Custom profile fields still show on the left if you have any set up. We've removed the join date, and just changed the way the other data is shown so it's not as verbose :)

#2103290 "Topics Without Replies" VNC Filter

Posted AtariAge on 18 April 2011 - 09:32 AM

Just read the new blog entry describing the latest and greatest improvements to the VNC/My Content interface.  Great work!  :D

One thing I'd really like is the ability to see threads which have no replies.  This is useful for moderators and admins to find topics that are deserving a response but have been neglected for one reason or another. Often these come from users new to your forum who have signed up specifically to ask a topical question.  If these are responded to reasonably quickly, that might encourage the user to hang around your forum and become a regular visitor.

How about adding a "Topics Without Replies" filter to the "Other" section on the new VNC screen?

Thanks!

..Al

#2085525 3.2.0: complete improvement of language system needed!

Posted Adriano Faria on 01 March 2011 - 05:09 AM

Just to remind you guys from IPS, don't forget of LANGUAGE SYSTEM in IP.Board 3.2.0. As you all know, this is an issue since 3.0.0!

The current language system fails when you use more than 1 language and translate the apps!

Example: if I use English and Brazilian Portuguese (or any other foreigner language) and use any app (Gallery, Download, Blog, third-party add-ons (tutorials, ticket system, etc) ), when you translate those apps and upload the XML, now you got both languages sets using the same translated files (XML), when should translate only one!

You need to find a way to make the translation update only one!

Tks.

#2017582 Suggestion: Make answering poll questions optional

Posted Clickfinity on 09 September 2010 - 06:59 PM

I held my first poll the other day and posted three questions.

My members immediately complained they couldn't answer as it generated an error.

The first question was a Yes / No one, the second was for the YES group, the third for the NO group.

However, it turns out that you HAVE to answer every question that's posted before your vote is submitted.

When making a new poll, can we please have a tick box next to each question - "Answering optional".

Thanks,
Shaun :D

#2011801 [Suggestions] IP.Downloads

Posted markopolo2002 on 26 August 2010 - 03:27 PM

I'm working through a list of suggestions for IP.Downloads as this is what we primarily use for our freeware download site, some are from our members and some from ourselves, hope at least some of them can be considered a useful addition to the next release - some may be a little optimistic but hey, if you don't ask! :)
Thanks in advance
Marko

Front-end Search
  • Search which extends 100% width, possibly above header, with keyword field, drop-down to search title/description or both, drop-down to choose the area to search (i.e. forums, downloads, blogs, etc) and drop-down to search all categories or choose specific cats with "GO" or "SEARCH" button at the end with a text link or other obvious link to the 'Advanced Downloads'.
  • Possibility of being able to specify a 'default' area to search in (i.e. downloads, gallery, forums, etc) - this way a site specialising in downloads can choose to have the search set to 'downloads' as default or a site specialising in art can have the search set to 'gallery' as default.
Returned Results
  • Search results to show title date added, date updated, amount of downloads and possibly rating?.   Ability to sort returned results by most downloaded, most rated, newest added or recently updated.
Advanced Search
  • Ability to search custom fields
  • Ability to list downloads by download totals, ratings, newest, updated, etc
Other
  • Include both new and updated files in RSS Feeds with noticeable "Updated" or "New" somewhere in the feed

#2003198 My "vision" of the perfect IP.Downloads UI

Posted Alan on 10 August 2010 - 09:54 AM

For a while now I have wanted to design some mockups of the IP.Downloads user interface that I've always wanted and now I've finally got around to it :)

There are 4 mockups, category list, view category, view free download and view paid download, I've linked to the images below rather than include them in the post as they are rather chunky.

Category List - Mockup: http://nexus.forumin...tegory_list.png

Starting with the category list itself, there isn't much change here (imagine that it uses the standard IPB alternating cell colours), the only real change is the removal of the Latest File column.

The major change is the addition of the sidebar blocks.  The first is a featured download (configurable by admins), this featured download is from all categories.  The second change is the Latest / Popular / Rated tab box.  Again, this would pull file info from all categories.

View Category - Mockup: http://nexus.forumin...ew_category.png

Starting with the file list, it now includes a snippet of the description to fill up some of the blank space that was there before.

The author / etc details have been moved to a single column (again, assume that it uses the standard IPB alternating cell colours), this column could also include custom fields, for example, it could include the required IP.Board version for addons here on the IPS website.

This page also includes the Featured / Latest / etc blocks but this time they are pulled from the current category rather than all of them.

Viewing Free File - Mockup: http://nexus.forumin...w_free_file.png

All of the file information has been centralized in a new box to the left of the page, with the right box now only being used for the long download description.  File download links are now provided directly in this box rather than going to a seperate page, and it also provides social bookmarking links to help authors share their files (and get more traffic to your forum).

The screenshots are located below this box (those white squares with a cross through it are supposed to be screenshot thumbnails :))

On the right hand side of the page, you have the file description box, below that is the add comment box.  I've put this at the top to save people having to read through tons of "Thanks!" replies before they add a comment of their own.  Below that are the comments, these would be full-featured replies (aka, IP.Board replies) that support attachments, show the usual postbit, that sort of thing.  This also means that seperate support topics are no longer required.

Viewing Paid File - Mockup: http://nexus.forumin...w_paid_file.png

The only real change here is the additiona of the price and the Purchase button rather than download links, other than that, it works exactly the same as above.

Here's hoping that a few of these changes make it in to IP.Downloads one day :)

#1941577 Considering IPB

Posted Wolfie on 15 April 2010 - 08:46 PM

View PostMartin, on 15 April 2010 - 07:41 PM, said:

New site.  Currently setup with vB 4.0.3.  Not live yet.  No real users yet.
I am not thrilled with vB support and issues.  Just spent the better part of a day looking at your product, reading posts and running the demo.  A few questions:
I'll answer what I can as best as I can.  Your questions will be bolded.

1- Somewhere I saw that the Invision Power website is run entirely on IPContent.  Can you describe exactly what parts of the site are run using this module and what is being done?
I'm sure IPS will correct me if I'm wrong, but the main InvisionPower.com site is running on IP.Content as well as the resources section.  I'm sure other parts are too, but those are a couple of examples.

3- Is there an option to allow login with email and password rather than forcing the prospective user to create a user id?
You can choose to let members sign in with their email address.  I don't recall how it handles member ID's at that point, but it might still ask for a member ID, just in case you choose to let members sign in with an ID instead of an email.

But in short, yes, you can set logins to use email addresses.

4- I need to have both free and paid membership available.  Is there an interface in place to manage payment and annual recurrance?
IP.Subscriptions.  It used to be pre-included with IP.Board, but now is a separate download but is free to active customers.

5- Can different membership levels be assigned either a text or image to identify them as to their group membership?
Yes.

7- Can the Admin create a user by hand withotut the user having to go through the sign-up dialog?
Yes.  Admins can add new members in the AdminCP.

8- Can you setup URL's from which you do not want to accept new member registrations?
I don't believe so, but you could always ask for a modder to develop something to accomplish that for you.

9- Is there a mechanism through which one can modify posted links in certain cases?  For example:  A member posts a link to a book on Amazon.  We would like to modify that link to include our affiliate program ID number.  This needs to happen in the background and transparently to the user.
Not that I know of.  It may be possible by use of bad word filters (change an amazon link to another version of the link).  It's something else that would require a mod.

11- How can one add/modify the tabs in the header?  "Forums, Members, Blogs, etc."
If you use the demo (click here), you would go into the AdminCP, click on Applications and you can change the names in there.  If not there, then via the Language bits in the Look & Feel tab.

12- IPContent:  Is this tool limited to adding pages to the "Pages" tab?
Oh heck no!  You can add pages, databases, scripts and more.  It's like having an empty IP.Board shell, where you add the content you want to have. It takes some getting used to but is virtually unlimited with what you can do.

13- Is there a way to present a threaded or hybrid view of a conversation?
You can change the view of topics, but I don't believe you can change how a PM conversation is displayed.

15- Can IPBoard automatically generate a tag cloud?
Currently you can't without using an addon.  There's a topic about it in the feedback area and there is a post here from someone who has made an add-on to do tag clouds.

16- Advertising interface?  Google AdSense and self-hosted ads?
IPB v3.1 has built in support for advertising.  There is more about it in the IPS Company Blog.
Ad code integration (#1)
Ad code integration (#2)

18- Paypal integration for payments, donations, etc.?
IP.Subscriptions supports PayPal

Disclaimer:
The information I have stated is to the best of my knowledge.  I am not an IPS staff member, so if an IPS staff member responds, please accept their answers over mine.

#1938173 [More Features] Some things to improve IPB.

Posted Invisiοnist on 07 April 2010 - 02:06 AM

Alrighty, so I noticed a few things that sorta irritate me lately since I have been working with IPB more and more. I hope some of these features will be added but of course it's just a suggestion, I hope to receive some feedback from the staff and members about it though.

1.) In the user profile page, can we have "View Posts | Pages" just like that below "View my Content" I do like the whole content idea but is a few extra steps for the most common and (for me) very used feature. If you put it like I mentioned in this sentence it will only be one line and not look cluttered if that is what you are worried about. It's just an easier for of access IMO.

2.) When you view "User Posts" it has a very nice display. You can read the posts and topic title etc which is fantastic! but... why isn't the rep there? I wanted to see what I was repped in my posts so I went to "view Posts' but the rep I received isn't in the preview so I had to go through each posts to try and find it (and still didn't lol) I am curious to see what people like that I post so it would be nice to have that in the user posts preview as well.

3.) The reputation system here is really great, I love the ease of it all, the only thing that bugs me similar to #2 I posted is that its hard to see what I was repped for... can we add in the user profile field and/or user CP the option to view the list of rep I have received/given along with the ability to leave a comment when repped...

3.5) This may be a bug.. but so far on this board sometimes I can view who repped someone by clicking the number and sometimes I can't... and for some reason I see no option to be able to neg rep posts.. but yet I see some posts that have negative rep... Posted Image

4.) Quick Mod Access!! I can not stress this enough.. one major downer since the switch is the mod editing of user profiles. Its a pain really.. I cant just go to their profile page click edit member and be taken to the admin CP to edit their info/group/permissions/ban etc Instead I have to go to the admin CP and type in there name (if I can even remember it) Why not have a quick access to edit all their info via Admin CP?

5.) Maybe I'm missing this.. but is there a way to remove someones status other than the admin CP editing? To make one user not able to create a status update at all.. that would be something really helpful. Same with the ability to not allow a user to receive and/or send profile comments or reputation.  I'm not sure if it's possible to edit per-user without a user group mask but I hope it is because having too many user groups gets really messy on IPB.

6.) Ability to allow some users to hide their display name history and reputation.  Pretty self-explanatory. Some people would like to be anon.

7.) I think this has been discussed before-- but can we have the option for notifications to just be inline pop-up with no "Check Message" section... it gets annoying to have to go through each message for it to disappear from my "new notifications" warning. Also alot of my members complain that its not default for notifications on profile comments, gallery image comments, and blog comments to be inline (with out a pop up) just a little New Notifications icons by the user settings so they know they have new comments and when they go to the new comment it disappears.

8.) Today's Posts can this be added to the "view new content" feature. If you kept the "view new content" that would be great.. but when you click on it, have it go to a tabbed table similar to "View Your Content" so that the user can view "Today's Posts" "Unread Posts" "Latest Posts" and maybe even "Unreplied Posts"

9.) Quick Selective Quoting - Also a very, very excellent feature! It has been mentioned serveral times throughout the IPB mod request / suggestions. Its just a little "Highlight the text and click the QS button" for it to drop down to the quick reply box for you to quickly get specific information out of a certain post that you wish to reply to. It's REALLY useful :)

Anyway that's all I can think of for now :)
I hope for some positive feedback on this, its just a few suggestions/questions.

#1908334 Repositioning hooks...

Posted bfarber on 02 February 2010 - 07:48 PM

It is, but it requires IN_DEV to be on (3.1 removes this restriction).

As for the custom skin itself, you can find

<if test="finalClosed:|:...">

in the skin. That's where it gets the hook point from, so if you wanted data attached to this hook point to display elsewhere, just remove the finalClosed:|: label on that if statement, and add a new one elsewhere in the skin

<if test="finalClosed:|:1==0"></if>

put that where you want it to show up in your custom skin.
