This has become my approach now. When one of the sites I frequent upgraded I went ahead and deleted all my PMs. Again, it's just paranoia.
 Paranoia that is.... nothing really changed other than access, all an admin had to do was have sql toolbox and could read every pm you have ever posted on that board.

Keep in mind an admin can change a user's password to gain access or just simply directly-query the database. Granted this feature may make it a bit easier for an admin to access a user's information on their community but they have always been able to.

Documentation about this new IP.Board 3.3 feature

I'd just like to take a few minutes to give my thanks for this.  I frequently have to make changes to my initdata.php file for my production and development boards, and having the option to have this file be read first and not have its constants overwritten by initdata.php makes upgrades so much easier.

For those of you on 3.3 and who ever need to make changes to their initdata.php files (for things like setting the default app, the ACP timeout value, etc.), check out this document and see how you can ensure your customizations will always stick around.

#2250280 Suggestions for IP.Nexus

Posted ADKGamers on 04 April 2012 - 06:03 PM

After opening a support ticket Jason mentioned I should put my questions here as a suggestion for IP.Nexus

Currently the only shipping information (tracking number) that is given to the users is via Email.  As Jason said, it's not very reliable.   I was actually surprised to not find the information that I was looking for in the Client Area.

It would be nice to be able to see these things in the client area for my customers:
  • Shipping status (shipped, not shipped)
  • When it was shipped
  • Carrier it was shipped with
  • Tracking Number
I honestly thought this was in there and directed one customer to his client area, only to find out it wasn't there.  And that's when I opened a ticket to ask the questions.

Another thing that I would like to see changed in the back end of IP.Nexus would be the ability to edit the tracking number after you marked it as "Shipped"  For 2 of the items that I had shipped it looked as though it didn't save the tracking number, and now I can't add it to give to the members.    Granted right now that doesn't matter since it's not in the Client Area and an email already was sent saying it had been shipped (without the tracking number).   Unless it would resend another email with the "Updated" tracking number.

So these are my suggestions for IP.Nexus.  I feel that they are quite simple and nothing that is obstructive in which website owners don't want to have to disable, etc. .   I feel it's something that everyone will benefit from and as Jason said in the support response:

Quote

. . the more info you provide to customers, the happier they are. And, then, in return, the happier YOU are.

I look forward to hearing feedback about this not only from the other members of the community here, but developers as well.

Thanks

Please don't leave it too long before getting the Android app out.  There are more Android users here in the UK now than iPhone users.

You're just like the media, taking things way out of context. He was saying that selling items on a forum isn't a real business and in a real money making adventure. Not a physical business.

I think Hunting insects' (very valid) point is that, depending of course on where you are, the Government probably very strongly disagrees ;)

I sincerely hope that IPS won't rush it to much - I prefer a stable product and this is a major rewrite. I prefer a delay above some huge exploit at a rushed product that is also un-useable :)

If they were to get rid of 100% of all the useless or outdated features and then replace them with usable features for today's generation... forums could once again be a viable market.

1) Every "useless" feature to you is a useful feature to someone else. :)  This statement is entirely subjective, and thus it's unlikely we'll ever hit anyone's "perfect" goal.  Yes, we will be removing a lot of things in 3.2 that we feel are outdated or can be accomplished without telling the admin/user about it.  But it's probable that no matter how much we remove or add, every user will still have their own opinion of other things that should be removed, or added.

2) Forums are an extremely viable market already.

The question remains, who needs all the extra features?
Just look at all of the other topics in this forum, IP.Board customers are the ones asking for extra features, IPS then decides what they can add.  They can't please everyone with what they decide to add, though.  If they're adding too much for your liking, and you prefer a less feature filled product, there are other things like XenForo that may be better fits for you.  But just bear in mind, XenForo is likely to add more features later on as well.

It's a little concerning that Invision Power Services would require me or anyone else to seek "other means" to acquire such basic knowledge.
No offense intended, but you just have a different view from most of what exactly constitutes "basic knowledge".  Most people don't care what us little guys make and upload here, they care what IPS produces.

#2067483 IPB 3.1.5 ever coming?

I'm pretty sure that most software developers, if they break an existing piece of code that effects a major piece of software functionality, go back and fix their mistake.

Unless you're Microsoft and IP 3.5.1 is your Vista.

Nonsense. I use several high priced 3D software applications. Yes they do put out some bug fixes but some major bugs don't fixed until the next version because either the bug is significant and requires a major code rewrite or it's been fixed and the next version isn't that far away. There is a third option and that's where the bug doesn't get fixed. It gets put in the "Too hard basket".

I think considering what IPS charge for support what you get is a lot better than what companies that charge an awful lot more provide. Heck, they even respond in the forums. One 3D company I do beta testing for, their bosses have never been seen let alone posted in a forum. Here you get the main man :)

#2063836 Suggestion: Show New Products option

Posted estan on 05 January 2011 - 02:48 PM

It would be nice if there is an option to show the Newest Products added in date added descending order.

It will show the xx newly added products.

I have now may products in the store and there is no any easy way for users to know which are the newest products added.

Maybe a link next to Popular products that says "Newest products"

What do you think?

#2061591 "splash" page

Posted Jason H on 30 December 2010 - 01:25 PM

Someone set this up on their site, and.. It was such a good idea, I thought, I should mention it here.

When you click on "Store", you have the featured item in the middle, and your categories on the left, cart on the right.

What if you don't want a featured item, you just want a "Welcome" message to display when they click on the store?

This user actually created a 'free' item, set it as featured, so that they could have a welcome message show. Just seems like it'd look better if we could give the option where they could code in a welcome message, and it would look in the same style as the featured entry..

Agreed and in fact it should be possible to manually produce an invoice for anything whether or not it exists as a product within Nexus.

That is an option...

#2050065 Make banned users truely invisible

Posted Clickfinity on 30 November 2010 - 05:08 PM

ATM a member who is tagged as "banned" can still have their profile accessed by other members who click on their username and select to view their profile.

Can we remove this for banned members please so that once someone is marked as banned, their information is no longer publicly visible.

Thanks,
Shaun :D
