#1955239 [Feature] Improvement to language handling

Posted boon79 on 19 May 2010 - 05:29 AM

Hi,

In a future release i'd like to see an improved search system in the translation area. For example,

- Searching in individual applications

- Case sensitive searching

- Searching in language variables as well

I'm sure many translator would find these features useful.

#1941550 Notification Feedback

Posted Strike X on 15 April 2010 - 07:05 PM

Notification menu is great but when I click any links from the Notification menu, it will direct to Notification Page.. I really don't like this and its annoying. I would prefer it to direct to topic, reply or status.

#1938648 Attachment Manager

Posted Tanax on 08 April 2010 - 08:33 AM

Yea, I know vB has this - but the idea behind it is actually really really good. It prevents the user from having to upload the same content several times. It gives you sort of "your space" on the server and whenever you create a topic, blogpost or anything else that currently supports attachments, you will be able to attach any of the previous uploaded attachments. This is great when creating blogposts and want an image from a post you created, or vice versa. Even when creating new post and want to attach something you attached in another post.

It also lets you create virtual folders so you can organize your attachments, perhaps you want one set of subfolders to your mainfolder based on what type. I.e. 1 subfolder for images, 1 for scripts, etc. Then inside your images subfolder you can create other subfolders like "Artwork created by me" and "Tutorial images", etc.

You can even have a md5_file() method(that PHP supports) to prevent users from uploading the same image several times and boom - huge server space saver(if you're running an attachment heavy board that is).

It's a very nice system and very organized. I'm sure that IPB can make it even nicer when you put your minds to it.
Personally I think it's a killer feature.

#1938201 URL shortening for status updates

With 3.1, status updates seems improved a lot, what i want to suggest is maybe it can work with a url shortener service or even use it's own basic one?

#1935068 LaTeX support?

Posted Ajouz on 31 March 2010 - 11:46 AM

Hello ,
I can give you a simple solution which allow you to post latex

download this zip file and then extract it and upload bbcode.xml from BBCode Management in your admin panel Attached File  bbcode.zip   490bytes   85 downloads

Attached File  bbcode.zip   490bytes   85 downloads

and then you can use latex in posts

please note that:
  • this bbcode render latex as images from another site which mean that if this site was unavilable then these latex will not render to images
  • you need to enable dynamic images
how to use :

[tex]x_1[/tex]

[tex]x^2[/tex]

[tex](1+x)= {n \choose 0}+{n \choose 1}x+{n \choose 2}x^2+\ldots +{n \choose n}x^n[/tex]

thanks

#1919133 A couple suggestions..

Posted Gabriel Petrelli on 28 February 2010 - 08:32 PM

For IPB3 I noticed there is an option in the ACP to disable custom profile fields from showing in topic view, but it has no effect on the continuous topic view of private messages and conversations.

Also it would be nice if IPS would consider adding BBCode/HTML formatting and a limit cutoff to PM notification popups for IPB3.

It would also be nice to allow anyone to be able to set a custom title and not require posts, currently if I set the posts to zero it disables custom titles completely.

A more compact, less bloated default IPB3 theme and/or standard for all themes. As much as it's praised by the folks here at IPS my members and staff absolutely dislike it with a passion, I've received numerous complaints from members about the bulky, bloated look and feel of IPB3 compared to IPB2 and even Vbulletin. Some of my staff pointed out slowness, lag, increased page load times of IPB3 compared to IPB2 and I've noticed the same. Css and templates aren't optimized as pointed out by one of my staff, images suffer the same issue as some themes have large images that are ideal. Due to these issues I am forced to do the optimizations and edits myself or seek out someone willing to help, when it should be standard in IPB3. Whatever theme authors do is up to them, my suggestions only apply for the default IPB3 theme which is not only unattractive to me in it's current state, but my members and staff as well.

If I have any more suggestions, I'll post them as they present themselves.

I hope my suggestions are helpful and will aid IPS to improve the software for future releases of IPB. :)

#1893420 vBulletin 4 Converter

Posted Mark on 30 December 2009 - 05:49 AM

Several people have been asking about a converter for vBulletin 4 to IP.Board 3.
The converter system on our website at the moment includes a converter for vBulletin 3.8, but not 4.0.

I have been working on a vBulletin 4 converter and it is attached to this post.
It works exactly the same as the converter on our website, and is covered by the conversion service which is available for $60.
For instructions how to use the converter, please see this article: http://community.inv...html?record=175

At the moment, the converter can handle:
  • Importing member data to IP.Board. Including preserving user passwords, custom profile fields, etc.
  • Importing forum data (topics, posts, polls and attachments) to IP.Board.
  • Importing calendars and events to the calendar application which is included with IP.Board.
  • Importing blogs, including comments and attachments to IP.Blog if you have purchased and installed IP.Blog.
  • Importing user's albums, including comments into IP.Gallery if you have purchased and installed IP.Gallery.

It cannot handle:
  • Importing users paid subscriptions.
  • Importing data from vBulletin's CMS feature.
Both of these I will be looking into over the next couple of weeks. If it is critical for you that this data is converted, you should wait until the converter is finished.

If you have any problems with the converter, please submit a support ticket, it will find it's way to me.
If there's any new features in vBulletin 4 which I've missed that you feel could be converted, please let me know :)

#1890305 IP.Metrics

Posted Garthilk on 20 December 2009 - 11:24 AM

In addition to tracking visitors, pageviews, signups, etc., IP.Metrics would show you how many threads and posts are being created over time. It also shows which threads are the most active, most viewed, etc on a daily, or variable basis. How many PM's were sent in a given period, who are the most communicative members. Give the most status updates, etc. What are popular topics, etc. I'd love to see topic trending, hot topics, topic metrics. Who are the power users, spending most time on the site, conversion rates for new users to post, new users time on site, etc.

Now, no one should disagree: message boards are hard to monetize conversations trapped inside them. If one could solve this quandary, they could somehow make money. I think good analytics is going to be key. If IP customers can make money easier, then IP in turn should make more money.

Well then I would suggest that it should be a built in feature, not something external. The existing statistics in the system lack anyway.

#1874263 Best Move I Ever Made

Posted BSchwarz on 01 November 2009 - 09:54 AM

I was a long time vbulletin user. Watched and participated in the discussions on EZBoard when John first started to develop vbulletin and was the first install on a large active site converting from UBB. I was the first to test the converter, John sent me many variations until it was right, and use it to convert the site I owned at the time. I never really thought I would ever use any other software. A couple months ago I decided having all my eggs in one basket wasn't a good idea. Many of the things that were going on with IB looked eerily similar to what was happening with UBB years ago. I bought my first IPB license for a new site. Since then IB decided that long time, loyal customers like me had no place with them and basically kicked us to the curb. I have since bought 2 more forum licenses and one suite license and converted 2 of my sites. I have 5 sites left. More licenses will be bought over the course of the next month or so I will convert the rest of my communities.

I am thoroughly impressed the software and the support. It says a lot when the owner, Matt, offers help via twitter. It used to be that way with John. It helps to build loyalty and trust. The software itself runs far better than vbulletin. I will be here for a long time and want to say thanks for opening my eyes. If I didn't buy my first license I would never have seen how powerful IPB is.

#1867520 Suite with Content + other questions?

Posted bfarber on 16 October 2009 - 09:48 AM

What I'd personally like to see in some future version....

Have a button on each editor (fast reply, quick edit, new topic, etc.) that when clicked opens a sort of "user content" dhtml window. It would have tabs (vertical or horizontal) for Forums, Downloads, Gallery, Blog, etc. Then when you click the tab it shows your content for that application (attachments, files, gallery images, blog entries) and then you can insert that content into the editor. That way you can reuse any content anywhere, but it wouldn't necessarily need to be stored into a centralized attachments handler - gallery can still manage it's content itself, however it wants, and you can still reuse it anywhere on the site.

This is just a passing feature wish list - not a feature set in stone.

#1849255 Add special HTML characters insertion menu to editor

Posted KT Walrus on 26 August 2009 - 06:35 PM

I'd like to suggest that you add a special HTML characters menu to the editor, like the smileys menu.

For example, I'd like to see commonly used characters in the dropdown and all characters in a side menu.

The editor currently doesn't allow these codes to be entered using their friendly name (you must use the numeric version) to get such symbols:  ¼  ®  © °

Maybe the menu only needs the codes that have friendly names.

Anyway, see this link for a complete list of codes supported by all browsers.
