#2120837 Request: Clone Forum

Or, IPB could remember the settings for the last forum created and make those the default settings for creating a new forum.  I just went through this tedious process of creating a lot of forums that all have the same settings (for the most part), and the way it is now wasted my time.

Problem with this is that the cloning system will then be only useful when you are making a lot of forums, 3 weeks down the row you will forget what was the last recorded settings.
With the method I provided 3 weeks down the row if I need to make a new forum it would take me 2 seconds because I get to chose which to clone.

#1900721 Great Refund Serivce IPS [NOT!]

You could have checked out what the blog system was like here at the IPS forums, asked other users questions here, or signed up for a demo board which has all of the current IPS apps installed for you to try out.

I would've never bought IP.Content without first seeing it in action. Seeing it here on the IPS forums and then being able to play around with it a bit on a demo board is really what sold it for me.

You right, it was my mistake not trying the Demo first, but thats in the past now. Whats present is me trying to get my money back for a product im not going to use because it sucks.

Edit: And whos the stupid butthole surfer who keeps putting my posts as negative. Honestly.

#1900703 Great Refund Serivce IPS [NOT!]

Posted иэvo on 18 January 2010 - 02:18 PM

I bought the blog mod only to find out its nothing what i thought it was. When i requested a refund, i get bombarded with "we cant do that for you" crap.

Heres my pretty conversation with Nakisha.

Quote

On the 9th, i bought the blog module and only up until today did i install it.

Im highly disappointed with the Mod, its not at all what i thought it would be. If possible, could i get a refund?

I mean, in all honesty, i need something with sections for a reviews, not a user-related area.

I thought i could close off user posting, make the Blog a Review section and have my team of Staff post Reviews for Games but instead, i see the Mod is completely different then what i thought it was. Id really like a refund or a possible way to modify the Mod, but i think thats way to much work.

Hello,

Unfortunately, once the software has been downloaded it is our policy not to issue a refund.

Why would someone want a refund for a product like this if they didnt dl it first and see it for themselves. I understand where you are coming from, but believe me, i have no use for this Mod! I just want my 50 bucks back, i would gladly spend it on something else that would benefit my site.

I didnt know the Blog was such a user-related thing. Please consider my case, i really don't have the cash to spend it like this.

Hello,

I am not able to refund the funds back to you. If you would like to use the funds for the IP.Blog on another product, I can do that for you.

I dont want to use the funds on another product. I want my money back. Why are you not able to give me back my 50 dollars.

I know i am able to get it back if i were to get Paypal to do it, but i dont want to go there, it doesn't have to go there. I only want my money back for a product that im extremely unhappy with. I thought IPS had 100% customer satisfaction, or was i wrong to think that.

Hello,

Again, i have no use for this useless blog module! You know what im regretting here? That i shouldn't have boughten it, i should have just downloaded it from a Warez site, installed it, seen how bad it was and been like, wow. I was about to waste 50 dollars on this mod.

Nakisha, i want a refund. I dont care for you policy. Be human and understand that i just want my 50 bucks back, i dont have any use for this mod. Please, im asking you one last time to give me a refund.

Like wow, i just want my 50 bucks back and its leading to be so difficult. I never thought IPS would have this kind of problem. Normally any other Company goes, okay, your not satisfied, thats alright, we WILL give you back the money. The real drag is... i thought IPS was all about Customers, no?

What do you all think about this?

#1849101 OpenID Security Update for IP.Board 3.0.2

Posted IPS News on 26 August 2009 - 10:07 AM

OpenID Security Update for IP.Board 3.0.2

We are investigating issues related to OpenID not completely authenticating data which can result in the security of your community being compromised. This issue can only impact your community if you have enabled OpenID logins as the OpenID is disabled when IPS ships IP.Board releases.

Protecting Your IP.Board

There are two methods to protect your community.

Method 1: Disable OpenID

The easiest fix is to simply disable OpenID logins. These login systems are disabled by default in IP.Board so unless you have specifically turned on OpenID you are already protected. This screen shot shows you what to look for in your AdminCP:

20090826-d6rx9uxahxnry1793uftr22ypj.jpg

  • Click "Log In Management" in the AdminCP
  • Look for OpenID in the list. If there is already a red "X" then OpenID is disabled and your community is safe from this issue.
  • If you see a green check: disable OpenID by clicking the drop-down menu to the right, edit details, and set "Log In Enabled" to "No"

If OpenID is disabled and you do not use/need this login method you do not need to do anything further.

Method 2: Upload Source File

If OpenID is in use in your community and you need to keep it enabled simply upload the attached file to your forums directory. The path is included in the zip file and it is just one file.

Attached File  260809.zip   5.17K   5430 downloads

Support services note: as this update is a single-file update or the issue can be eliminated by simply disabling OpenID in the AdminCP we do request that clients apply either the setting or file fix themselves if possible. The 3.0.2 download has been updated as of the time of this announcement.

#1824731 3.1 request. "Favorite Posts"

Posted Wolfie on 12 July 2009 - 01:25 AM

Sort of like you can friend someone or watch a topic, click on a post to mark it as a favorite.  Then when you want to recall a post for some reason, you can look through your favorites.  Mark it for any reason, helpful information, funny joke, interesting topic, etc.

#1839371 Community Content System VS Others..?

Posted Ditchmonkey on 06 August 2009 - 01:39 PM

The holy grail of community-centric CMS systems is the total integration of community and content. Poorly integrated systems like Joomla/Wordpress/Drupal with IPS/Vbulletin etc is inevitably a technological dead-end. I have wasted my time with many iterations of these integrations and inevitably every one of them gets abandonded.

CCS will probably be thin on features in the short term but ultimately it will be the only solution that makes sense over the long term - a fully integrated CMS/forum.

I'm going to have to disagree with you on Joomla too. What a POS that is. The admin is a nightmare and when I worked with it last year I found that it had a lot of bugs. Drupal is really a better CMS and I've been using Expression Engine which is very nice for certain kinds of sites.

#1831035 Introducing Spam Monitoring Service

Posted IPS News on 22 July 2009 - 04:07 PM

We are pleased to announce our new Spam Monitoring Service

Our new Spam Monitoring Service will assist with the ever-growing problem of spam account registrations on communities across the web. This service will use a central database, hosted by IPS, to track those that may try to register an account on your IP.Board-powered community and stop them from registering.

How it Works

Each time a user tries to register, your IP.Board will contact the service and report the IP address and email address attempting to register. The service will scan a list of known spammers and give the account a score of 1 - 4. There are various options you can configure to control what behavior happens based on the score such as banning the account, letting it through normally, or queuing it for approval.

By harnessing the power of the many thousands of IP.Board communities, the service can "learn" over time what accounts are spammers. For example, a real human could never register on 5 IP.Board communities in just one minute so the service would see that account as a probable spam account.

The service will also monitor the "mark as spam" feature now included in IP.Board. This means that, as you and your moderators manually mark an account as a spammer, the information is reported back to the service to help stop those accounts on your community and other IP.Board communities as well!

Through these methods we are creating a service that learns from the collective data gathered from all IP.Board communities who choose to participate in the Spam Monitoring Service.

spamservice.png

Privacy

IPS will collect various registration information to track and catch spam accounts. Information that is not from a spammer is only kept temporarily (to detect trends so we can catch spam accounts) then deleted. The only information permanently kept is for those known to be spammers. The service is completely optional and no IP.Board is required to participate.

Activating the Service

The Spam Monitoring Service will be available in IP.Board 3.0.2 and is already being tested here on the IPS company forums. Once you have IP.Board 3.0.2, simply login to the IPS client area and activate a special key used for the service and put that key on your IP.Board AdminCP.

Pricing

To further our continuing efforts to not only enhance the products we offer but also the services around those products: this service will be offered at no additional charge to those with an active support and service license for IP.Board and for IPS hosting customers!

#1801612 Invision Power Board 3.0.0 Release Candidate 1

Posted IPS News on 14 May 2009 - 08:33 AM

We are (extremely) pleased to announce the first release candidate of Invision Power Board 3.0.0 is now available.

This is the first release candidate release so please take a moment and read this entire announcement before downloading. Everyone here at IPS is very excited to reach this milestone of development and we look forward to working with everyone to sort out any remaining issues that crop up during the RC stage so we can quickly move to the final release.

The release candidates for IP.Blog, IP.Gallery, and IP.Downloads will be available in about a week.

What is a Release Candidate?

A release candidate is a version of the software between the beta phase and a final release. With the first release candidate of IP.Board 3.0.0 you can safely assume that we consider the software stable enough to use on your live community. There will be bugs and issues but it is our belief that any issues that come up should not impact your overall ability to manage your community. Keep this in mind as you make your decision to upgrade to IP.Board 3.0.0 RC1 and only upgrade if you are comfortable working around any possible issues that are present. We will of course fix any issues that come up in IP.Board 3.0.0's final release.

Technical Support and Service

IP.Board 3.0.0 RC 1 can be considered safe to use on a live site but it is not quite the final version of the software just yet. We want to give those comfortable upgrading to an RC release the chance to do so and report issues before we encourage everyone to upgrade. Technical support and service is not offered during the RC stage but of course will be available when the final version is announced.

Download IP.Board 3.0.0 RC 1

To download, log in to your client area. You will see the RC download information by clicking into your downloads. As stated above, technical support is not available so please only download if you are comfortable testing software.

IPS Hosting clients: a build of RC 1 for your use will appear in the client area soon. Sorry about the delay there.
