#2095554 3.2 - Automatic image resizing in forum posts / attachments?

Posted Matt on 27 March 2011 - 03:07 AM

I added a new feature in 3.2 that allows the admin to set the maximum image size when uploading an attachment and resizes the image down if required.

#1944472 Apply badword filters to usernames

Posted Kyanar on 23 April 2010 - 05:42 PM

It'd be really good if the badword filters could also apply to usernames and display names (i.e. to prevent someone named 'nether regions of anatomy hole' signing up).

#1933679 Welcome to IP.Board 3.1!

Posted Matt on 29 March 2010 - 09:43 AM

I've updated this board to the latest development build. This update fixes many reported bugs and issues and also brings about a few improvements including:

- Fixes to the search engine
- Fixes to the active content display
- Fixes to the view new content display
- Fixed the "Type of view new content" user preference
- Fixes the "refresh to increment" bug in shared links
- Adds the ability to remove status import (which we have done on this board).

Please note that there are still several other bug fixes and improvements that are still being worked on. I know that View New Content is still returning a few 'read' items and this will be improved in a near-future update.

We have also reverted back to SQL searching to test this out more thoroughly.

#1928322 Why there is no social groups utillity developed by ips ?

Regarding the post buttons - it's not just guests that see those buttons. I have forums where the permissions prohibit members from starting new threads. I'd rather have that notification on the button clarifying permissions rather than getting a hundred messages about the button being missing in that forum.

Truth be told, we've experimented with more than one setup. Hiding the buttons, showing the button but then showing an error when it's clicked (with the login form). Based on real world research, we've determined the best option is to show a message to the user where the button normally appears, explaining that they can't use the button.

For those that disagree, that's fine. This is why IPB is fully skinnable. You can remove the buttons in the skin if you don't want them to display.

#1927946 Why there is no social groups utillity developed by ips ?

We tend to steer clear from official yes/nos to suggestions... this is why ;)

ghyghty, social groups may or may not get included in future. I personally like the idea (and is on my personal wish list) - but it's not something we've discussed officially.

As always, we announce development plans in the blog, any speculation or opinions posted elsewhere shouldn't be taken as gospel ;)

#1927947 Why there is no social groups utillity developed by ips ?

Posted Josh on 18 March 2010 - 07:38 AM

Personally, I've always felt there is a place for a social group style feature in forums, but it's one of those things that would require very careful implementation.  I think the biggest potential problem with this feature is that it fragments the conversation on your forum, by taking the conversation out of your main forums and into groups.  A feature like this need a really good discovery system, to help you find groups and to find out what is going on in those groups, otherwise they'll only die out, while drawing people away from the forums.

The kind of features I think would be really nice are the ability to join/leave groups, set a group owner, and perhaps give the group a comment system, as opposed to a full on sub forum.

The main point I'm trying to make here though, is while I think it's a potentially good idea, it would require a lot of time and planning to make it work right.  So even if we decided to add it today, it would be quite awhile before a feature like that was ready.

@ Rikki , are you an ipb official?  please tell me, if you are, it means i can throw away my ipb license, if this is the official response, and the official understand of a community here, i give up..
did you know what a community means?
did you know what the title of the  invision power website is?
"Invision Power - Community Forum, Blog, Gallery, CMS, and more - We are community experts"..

Please, but please confirm or infirm that your opinion is an official one, if so i give away my ipb license ( free/no charge)

I made it clear it was my personal opinion. And let's not get silly and try and claim that we can only use the term 'community' if we have social groups. Social groups are just one feature that might make up a community. We have dozens of other things too.

#1925383 How do I cancel my "Order"

Posted Perfect Chaos on 13 March 2010 - 04:03 PM

Now then, I have been searching for a way to cancel my order, and havn't found one.

Either I am a pathetically blindsighted fool, or there is in fact no way to cancel an order/package and will end up being incredibly pissed off.

So, then. Which is it going to be? Am I able to cancel? If so, for the love of (Insert divinity here) tell me how the hell to do so.

Edit: Yes, I realise this is in the wrong Forum.

Hmmmmm.....

Wolfpup (or Wp for short, replacement for Alpha)
Dawg (instead of Beta)
and
Alpha Dog (AD, replacement for R.C.'s)

I rather like that idea.

I think you need a hobby. ;)

#1922799 IPB 3.1.0

Posted bfarber on 08 March 2010 - 10:52 AM

In my mind, there is no difference between "alpha" and "beta". The only difference between the terms is what you put into it. ;)

Similar to Michael's interpretation, I use alpha up until the point we invite people outside of IPS to look at the software, and then I call it beta. It's irrelevant though, as the terminology used won't change how long it takes to release one bit. We could call it "puppy dog version" and it's still going to take the same amount of time to finish until we are comfortable with the release.

#1922627 IPB 3.1.0

Posted Mark on 08 March 2010 - 03:08 AM

I say alpha because there is still development going on and it's not public. Michael says beta because it's external - we're talking about the same thing though.

Don't worry Wolfie, there will be a public beta like always :)
