#2264872 Notify admins if skin update is available

Posted Tom Christian on 08 May 2012 - 05:16 PM

I know this is available to mod authors so that administrators can be informed if an update is available. Why not skinners?

I regularly have people e-mail me and tell me my products are 'bugged' or 'flawed' yet in reality, it's because they've upgraded from 3.2 -> 3.3 without downloading the latest version of the skin.

This would be an extremely useful addition in my opinion.

Thanks.

#2262342 App now available

Posted Charles on 02 May 2012 - 08:28 PM

Referencing our coming soon blog entry it appears Apple was fast today. We will post a blog entry soon letting everyone know the app is now available but for those who want to jump on early:

http://itunes.apple....20635?ls=1&mt=8

Note that it will only work on our company forums here right now as it requires 3.3.2. We appreciate bug reports and feedback you may have. Keep in mind we want to hear about feature ideas but we are not going to add new features right now: only perfect existing ones.

New features will come out after we release the Android version and can then develop both iOS and Android at the same time as we add new features.

#2253575 Thank you for constants.php

Documentation about this new IP.Board 3.3 feature

I'd just like to take a few minutes to give my thanks for this.  I frequently have to make changes to my initdata.php file for my production and development boards, and having the option to have this file be read first and not have its constants overwritten by initdata.php makes upgrades so much easier.

For those of you on 3.3 and who ever need to make changes to their initdata.php files (for things like setting the default app, the ACP timeout value, etc.), check out this document and see how you can ensure your customizations will always stick around.

#2238726 What's with the JS-only dropdown menus?

Posted bfarber on 08 March 2012 - 10:12 AM

Not having javascript enabled is hardly a concern in 2012, I'm afraid.  If you disable javascript, you can expect more than half the web to not work correctly.  It is well accepted these days that users who disable javascript understand this and accept the broken functionality.

#2236649 IP.Board 3.3 Beta: please, remove '<strong>' from user name o...

<strong> is perfectly fine, it's purpose is not to bold the text, that's just how browsers choose to display it's intended purpose (to give an element strong emphasis).

#2231445 Admin Posts "Reported"

Posted Matt on 15 February 2012 - 03:06 AM

If I made a mistake in my post - perhaps I misread a question and gave a bad reply, I'd love for someone to report it so I knew about it. It's quicker than writing a PM, that's for sure.

If I were a member of your forum, I think I'd be happy to have my account deleted.

#2226082 Suggestion: Integration of 3rd party code

I never read welcome PMs. It's too clear that it's automated since you get it right after joining.

#2209570 "You earned commission!" email

Posted Adriano Faria on 15 December 2011 - 05:13 AM

Why not to add the file name or file URL of the file that was just bought by the user ?

Posted Image

If you have 1 or 2 files, ok, that's easy. I have a few (only 10 or 11), but we have some contributors here that has more than 20, 25...

It's really annoying try to guess or have to check ID per ID of all files in Marketplace API to see which one was sold, especially if you use the same price range.

Thank you.

#2202456 Suggestion... build numbers

Posted Marcher Technologies on 29 November 2011 - 11:26 PM

You could leave feedback in the IP.Board section for allowing the member bbCode to also use user ID numbers as well.  If the name is nothing but a number, look up that user by number instead of name.
Or i could just make a sharedmedia plugin respecting permissions/settings/groups, and stop the whole mess of name or number........works locally just fine.
....REALLY tired of hunting links, and trying to push in foreign symbols to this dated bbcode...
that, and inline searchability is nice...
shucks, im not even perfectly certain the member bbcode as it stands would not show a banned member, or a member in a group hidden from the member list.
EDIT, not only does it not do that, but you hard-coded the HTML...... smoooth.
Used to wonder why with all the advances made, TB's Group Format hook didnt hit that....
And now i know.... you aren't passing it a template:
protected function _buildOutput( $member )
{
  return "<a href='" . $this->registry->output->buildSEOUrl( 'showuser=' . $member['member_id'], 'public', $member['members_seo_name'], 'showuser' ) . "' class='bbc_member _hovertrigger url fn' hovercard-ref='member' hovercard-id='{$member['member_id']}' title='{$this->lang->words['bbc_member_bbcode']}'>{$member['members_display_name']}</a>";
}
.... yeah thats dandy... until someone hooks into the hovercard to do something like format member names -.-
shouldn't that be:
protected function _buildOutput( $member )
{
  return $this->registry->output->getTemplate('global')->userHoverCard( $member );
}
...if such a change doesn't make 3.3 then all that effort is for naught, as that will STILL be a link.... and search engines will follow it.

#2196496 Forum Moderators

Posted Mr. Mikey on 15 November 2011 - 12:20 PM

Well this seems archaic and non-polished compared to the rest of the ACP. Seems to me like it needs a rethink?

For example, when in the forum manager, I have to scroll all the way to the bottom to add a new forum moderator. This seems a little silly when we should simply be able to click the dropdown (image) and select "Add moderator" from the list.

Also, there seems to be no list of all moderators in one page inside the ACP anywhere. Please correct me if I'm wrong but I have to drill down into the categories to find the little green badge which tells me there's a moderator..?

Another thing is that I hate having to drill down into forums and subforums to find moderators! For example, take this example:

Posted Image

There is a moderator of "Contact an Admin", which is a Subforum of "Suggestions & Feedback" which is a subforum of "News & Announcements" which is a forum under the category. So why is there no green moderator badge under "News & Announcements" which indicates that there is a moderator in a child forum of this forum? Instead I have to make several more clicks to get to the moderator page. On a brief scan of the forum manager page, I don't know if there are any moderators at all. Bad for when you need to remove old moderators.

Posted Image

This green badge should be on the parent forum in the initial forum manager overview, in my opinion, so that on a cursory glance I can see there is a moderator. This could also be fixed by listing at the bottom of the forum listing (where you currently add moderators) which moderators there are, or actually by adding a separate ACP page?

Sorry if this is in the wrong place.

#2193459 ACP suggestion.... hover delay.

Posted Marcher Technologies on 08 November 2011 - 05:36 PM

I have no qualms with the acp menu structure, or positioning....
but when it vanishes before i can select an item because of mouse-out it is severely frustrating and un-intuitive...
and its something that annoys many... would it be so horrible to have a delay on mouse-out before the menu ninja-vanishes?
just my two cents....
when id rather click the application link than even attempt to use a sub-item... that's bad, right?

#2187361 PLEASE: Give us more upload quota!

Posted IPBSupport.de on 26 October 2011 - 12:57 AM

Since two Weeks i can't upload more files to the tracker:

Upload quota on the Tracker said:

Used 9.72MB of your 9.77MB global upload quota (Max. single file size: 51.66K)

Upload quota on the Forum said:

Used 1.77MB of your 4.88MB global upload quota (Max. single file size: 3.11MB)

For example - for a customer who reports many bugs (since years!) in the tracker, around 10MB upload quota is too low.

So i have to upload files to my own host, but when this files removed the tracker and/or forum view here on the company forums are broken, and i thought this is not the best solution. I know you have a lot of customers, but only a few of them would using a big upload quota, so it would be great to have a unlimited (or much bigger) upload quota, like we have in your IP.Gallery too :wink:
