#2260704 IP Gallery - It's driven us away from IPS to the competition

Posted jackflash on 29 April 2012 - 01:18 AM

First, let me say that we've purchased over 50 IPB licenses over the years.  It's been great to see how the forum software has developed over the years since we started using it. . .from 2.1.7 to 3.3.1, IPB has proven time after time to be stable, reliable and rock solid.

Second, IPS support is top notch - there isn't another company out there that matches the quality of their work and service.

Thirdly, the community here that supports each other with technical help and the people that offer both paid and free hooks/applications are superb.

With that being said though, IP Gallery is what has stopped us from further purchasing more IPB licenses. In fact, we've moved some of our current sites away from IPB to competing software.

The gallery is such an important part of a community and IP Gallery simply does not live up to a publishers or a users expectations. I'm not going to rehash here what's wrong with IP Gallery because it's been discussed over and over again.

It's obviously not economically in our best interests to leave a license "idle", purchase "redundant" software AND change everything around, but IP Gallery just doesn't cut it.

We've waited and waited for an improved version of IP Gallery, but had to move on.

#2240639 IP.Tracker, please IPS...

Posted Michael on 14 March 2012 - 02:51 PM

It has now been almost 7 months since the last beta update of IP.Tracker.  I can understand being busy, but this has really gone on way too long without there being an update to this app.

Please, either devote some time to continuing work on this app, or turn it over to someone who will make time for it.  It's too valuable of a tool to sit there for this long without having its issues addressed.

EDIT: To clarify, I'm not asking to take it over personally, just that it get a little bit of TLC.

#2212280 Suggestion

Posted bfarber on 21 December 2011 - 09:04 AM

Thank you for your feedback, however I don't really see much of anything in this topic that would be considered "feedback or suggestions for IP.Content", so I'm going to close this.  If you have ideas on how to improve our software, feel free to share them.

#2202318 Gallery 4.2.0 - Browsing member's Gallery is a disaster

Posted Gerry 5039 on 29 November 2011 - 04:34 PM

I am sorry but despite being told the Admin Control Panel would be brought back, it has not, the logistics of the album now is an absolute nightmare.  We waited all this time for nothing, thank you. I bought my Gallery software not my members, yet it seems my members have full control of my software, when it should be the other way round.

All I can say now is that none of my regiments software will be renewed, and being constructive what direction is IPS taking, as I, and I am sure many others reading through many of the threads on this forum are so disappointed with the direction being taken.

I know we on this forum are only about 5 or 6% of your clientèle, and therefore its easy to say sod it, they are a very small minority, and there is absolutely nothing we can do about it.  We cant even vote with our pockets because it would not even make a dent, we just have to live with it or buy elsewhere.

The thing that gets me though is despite a long talk with a member of IPS before my eye operation 7 weeks ago, none of my concerns have been addressed.  I am keeping this constructive, I don't want a flame war, I am just expressing my opinion, I am now going to have to install another Gallery and move all my photographs over to it. Shame because the Gallery used to be brilliant, if not the best at one time.

#2192646 Gallery 4.2 Suggestions

Posted Matt on 07 November 2011 - 03:25 AM

Guys,

First off, thanks 3DKiwi for making this list. I really appreciate you taking the time to compile that.

Now, we do hear you all loud and clear. This release of Gallery was just a maintenance release to fix the bugs and to fix critical issues such as not being able to move images properly because the drop down boxes weren't populated correctly due to the complexity of the album selection. I also wanted to add in the 3.2 extensions (tagging, like/rep, Mod CP). I also found the time to implement two popular suggestions: to be able to make a global album container only, album only and image only. I also added a toggle to remove the feature image or to make it a random selection from available cover images in that branch.

The next update will be more complex and we'll have the time to add in some of these larger suggestions.

Please don't think that we don't care of we're not listening. We're making notes of all these items and we will incorporate most of them over the next few releases.

#2100467 Automatically Copy Application Images to All Skins

Posted rsyvarth on 09 April 2011 - 11:15 AM

Many of the larger applications include images which currently have to be manually copied into all of the skin image directories if the forum has multiple skins. This can be a rather confusing issue for users who are not very familiar with IPB.

I would suggest the ability for developers to specify a directory in which their application images are stored and then while the application is being installed, automatically copy those images from the 'master/' directory to every single skin image directory (it probably shouldn't overwrite existing images, in case the skin includes images for the application already).

I think that this would greatly simplify the application install process for many users and help application installs to move more towards a '1 click install' sort of process.

#1994480 Very minor issue with Notifications Options page

Posted Michael on 27 July 2010 - 08:01 AM

It's not really a bug, but it's sort of annoying.  Since we have so many notification choices on this site now, if you scroll down to the bottom you don't see what the column headers are anymore:

I have to remember which column is email, which is for personal conversation, etc.  Would be better if the column headers showed at the top of each section.

#2092518 Main Page Way too Busy!

Posted info@hansprunner.com on 19 March 2011 - 11:16 AM

In the next update, it will be nice if WE can decide what is shown on the main page:

Big random image: yes/no
Recent images: yes/no
Recently Updated Albums: yes/no
Sub-Albums displayed: yes/no

It will also be nice if WE can decide if the main Gallery 4 page shows the contents in the "Home" mode or in the "Browse Gallery" mode.

Main display: home/browse

This will enable us to set up the Gallery with the informations that our members think are necessary and not with the other silly bits.

I would like the option to tag image(s) to show on the main page. Something like an "Editor's Pick" or "Pic of the Month", so only the best photos occupy that prominent space.

#2091931 Suggestion to add a GUI to the templates Setup

Posted R1-Limited on 17 March 2011 - 05:44 PM

I understand the need for some to be in the code and tweaking what they will.  But a suggestion to add a GUI for settings such as How many Articles to show in the front page, How many Archived, How many Characters in the title and Body would make things far easier then to expect Computer Science Majors to be the only ones to change the look and feel.

Currently all adjustments it seems is in the Page, Article and other Templates along with all the sub blocks or what ever.  I posted a How Do I do this in the tech support forum, I want to simply add more than 4 Articles to be listed and adjust the Archoives to show a longer title and some info form the body (See Screen Shot)

It is simple things like this, that in my opinion would make IPB more user friendly and entice many more VB users to use.

Case in point, VBadvanced is a very robust CMS/Wrapper/APP very capable of being the IP.C of VB.  It is extremely easy to use, adjust, customize with little to no code experience needed.  In IPB, I have to search and replace or change CODE in the templates, blocks or whatever.  Its expected I should know what to look for.  However in the example shots below the one just below this.  It is clearly showing how easy one can just make the content changes and be done with it.  IMO the K.I.S.S. Principle is not even considered by the development team here, nor is the adage of Never Under Estimate the Ingenuity of an Idiot (Me)

As examples below I am admin for another VB site I help build, I donated my License to this site and purchased IPB but in the Screen shots you can see how integrated the product is and the ability to simply just choose what you wish to be displayed.  Its just Simple Thought as to how to make it easy for Dummies Like Me
