#2018568 Complete order without registering

Posted Kyanar on 13 September 2010 - 04:09 AM

That might not make a lot of sense, actually.  What I mean is that rather than being prompted to create an account on step... 2 I think it is, the member should be able to complete the entire order, and the billing details used to automatically create an account with a random password.

The less unnecessary steps we introduce, the more likely that potential customers will fully complete the order process.  Unnecessary steps put them off.

Mod tools / report centre / warning system are very much in our sights in a near future release.

Honestly, I think the banning system is one of the worst things about IPB. Moderators can't ban members and have them moved to a banned group, bans can't be set to expire and move the member back to their original group (although "suspensions" can), there are both bans and "suspensions" which just ends up making things way more confusing than they should be, and there's no obvious indication anywhere at all that a member is "suspended" which can easily lead to confusion about whether someone is banned or not.

And the warning system, I think it's useless. It should be able to give bans and restrictions based on warning points, and it should log all warnings in an obvious place.

I really think that this whole "just because vB has it doesn't mean IPB should have it" attitude is holding IPB back. Face it, vB does some things a lot better than IPB does, yet there seems to be this resistance to changing some features to be better just because it happens to be like how vB does it.

Except for the report center and member edit link in profiles, most of the entire moderation/ban/warning set up isn't so set up well.

Sorry. I think the report center is an abomination. It's a nice concept that was poorly implemented.

#2013405 Thank you for.. everything

Posted miikerocks on 30 August 2010 - 04:25 PM

I just wanted to thank you for such an amazing line of products. I've been with IPS for just under two years now, and I've seen good, great, awesome, and some drama; that really, never needed to happen from specific community members. I've just grown to love this platform and the developers for it, more and more every day. For instance, I decided to shut my old community down, and 3 weeks ago, opened up a new one to the public. After over a year and 3/4 of having my old community up, I had 8922 posts, and 369 members. Now, my new community, grew rapidly after I first mentioned it to the public when making a comment on a Halo: Reach developer blog.

My new community, after 2 weeks and 6 days, has been exploding. 5954 posts, 238 members, and an almost constant stream of guests, usually 19+ at a time. My community's online record already hit 80, and it's future is extremely bright. Everybody loves the status update system, and all the features of the community. I'm making short segment videos to explain features, so that the community will easily know how to do a certain thing, such as profile customization. It's really cool, because the members that join, instead of leaving, are staying. I'm a really nice guy, and I ensure that equality amongst everyone is the main goal to keep. But, because of the new status update system, among with notifications, this is so much more simple to do. I've gotten to know each member, by commenting on their statuses, replying when they comment on mine, and so on, and so forth. Members are calling it the "Facebook for the Halo community, only better."

It is because of you, IPS, and your openness to suggestions, your willingness for implementations, and your positiveness towards any member, their thoughts, and their opinions. You have created a line of products that can help me realize one of my dreams, and aid me in accomplishing a successful community. Already on the right path, striking down any stray drama that appears, and becoming friends with everyone; I can encourage reinforcing discussions, and see it pay off. Thank you for everything you have done, for your hard work, and any bumps in the road that you have encountered. Any company experiences this if they've reached true success, and you have taken it in the best way for your company, and the people associated with it. I now already have 250 YouTube subscribers in a week, and it seems that on this path, I will soon be a YouTube Partner, making money from Adsense without distracting ads on my forum. Through the many services you've allowed us to integrate with IPB, I am able to continue, and have a social community that is unlike any other. For this I am not only grateful, I am heartfelt at the insurmountable feeling I get whenever I use this amazing piece of software. You, and your team are golden.

With Best Regards,

#1997144 Let's be honest-- It needs some work.

Posted Invisiοnist on 30 July 2010 - 07:22 PM

Don't get the wrong idea, I absolutely LOVE IP.Downloads, but its pretty limited right now... I hope IPS will take some time to work on it and hopefully add some of my suggestions below. I know for a while IPS was doing alot of requests from the members, give Im sure you all are busy with IP.Nexus it would be amazing if you could fit this in in the next few point releases.

  • Currently there is no option to remove "uploading" content. I would like to use some section for external linking only and alot of the time people will use the browse function anyway and it makes it alot of work to go to each person explaining not to use the browse and only the "link to". So if you could add the option to allow ONLY the link to file that would be fantastic.
  • The downloads are great... download a single file or add more files... nice. However what if they want to upload a series? For example, someone made a book with 30 chapters... they want to link to their book uploads chapter by chapter.. but when you click "download" it just shows a huge list of "download" buttons. How about the option to title the download. Such as "My Life - Chapter 1" -Download (Mediafire)" and "My Life - Chapter 2" -Download (Mediafire)"etc. The way it is now downloads are really messy and unorganized.
  • What if they have multiple series, chapters, and mirrors? Can you take the organization even further and allow sub lists. For example:

Book 1 Title

  • Chapter One

  • Download Mirror 1
  • Download Mirror 2

Book 2 Title
  •    Chapter Two

  • Download Mirror 1
  • Download Mirror 2

  • On the downloads page, it only has one section called "categories". It would be nice to have multiple categories and "download forums" under each one. Such as "Music Downloads" for one section and "Modification Downloads" for another section. For now all download forums are under the same section and its not as organized as it could be.
  • Another huge option to help out with downloads is a mass uploader. Like right now you can only upload one link at a time.... is it possible to make a huge text section so you can copy and paste links in a row so that one line is one url and it will automatically separate them into single downloads instead of having that add new link, add new link, add new link over and over again.
  • Same for uploading downloads. Have a mass browse uploading system like photobucket so you can highlight what you want to upload and do it all in one step.
Anyway thats all for now, I hope you decide to do a few of these things!

#1905004 Converting from vb 3.8 (vbseo) and questions to IP Content

This would require some custom coding.

Is it possible to create a primary key in the database table to the userid & carid, so that each  user can only create one entry for "me and this special car"? Or are primary keys removed from IP.Content once I update other databse settings in IP.Content ?
