#2270082 License Structure Changes: The Formula

Posted Charles on 23 May 2012 - 11:11 AM

Reference our blog entry this topic is referring to...

This topic explains the formula we are using to calculate the renewal dates when we change the license structure. For general feedback or questions on the license structure as a whole please create a new topic.

Here are examples on how we would recalculate renewal dates and such.

Standard License with apps
  • IP.Board Standard License expiring 1 June 2012
    • IP.Gallery expiring 1 July 2012
    • IP.Blog already expired
IP.Board has a 6 month renewal rate of $25 and Gallery has a renewal rate of $10. This means that if IP.Board's days are worth 1 then IP.Gallery's days are worth 0.4 ($10 / $25). Assume today is 15 May 2012 so IP.Board has 15 days of credit and IP.Gallery has 45 days.

So now we have to calculate the equivalent days. We do IP.Gallery's 45 days * 0.4 = 18 days equivalent credit to IP.Board. It is 15 days between today (15 May) and IP.Board's expiration (1 June) so therefore we have 15 + 18 = 33 days of credit to work with.

Next we have to sort out how to apply those 33 days of credit. We are altering the renewal dates of IP.Board at a factor of 1 and IP.Gallery at a factor of 0.4 so 1.4 days of credit to keep everything active. Taking 33 / 1.4 gives us 23.57 (24) days of credit from today's date. So this results in 24 days from today (15 May):
  • IPS Community Suite
    • IP.Board new expiration of 9 June 2012
    • IP.Gallery new expiration of 9 June 2012
    • IP.Blog remains expired
Another example:
  • IP.Board Standard License expiring 1 June 2012
    • IP.Nexus expiring 1 July 2012
This case is a bit different as IP.Nexus has a higher renewal rate ($35) than IP.Board so the weight is 1.4. However, the formula is the same:

IP.Nexus 45 days * 1.4 = 63 days resulting in 78 days of credit from today (15 May). Again adding in the weights gives us 2.4 so we then do 78 / 2.4 = 32.5 (33) days of credit:
  • IPS Community Suite
    • IP.Board new expiration of 18 June 2012
    • IP.Gallery new expiration of 18 June 2012
    • IP.Blog remains expired
Business License

For business licenses we will add in a new package type called "Priority Support and Service" or similar that will be an addon package to the Suite license.

Legacy Licenses

Lifetime license will change to:
  • IPS Community Suite
    • IP.Board (Legacy: lifetime license - no extra services - ticket support included) No Expiration
If a Lifetime license holder as addons they will be recalculated using the same formula.

Perpetual license will change to:
  • IPS Community Suite
    • IP.Board (Legacy: perpetual license - no extra services - ticket support available on renewal) Expiration date caries over using same formula
IP.Board/Gallery/Blog bundle will change to:
  • IPS Community Suite
    • IP.Board with current expiration date
    • IP.Gallery with no expiration
    • IP.Blog with no expiration
General renewals and new purchases

IP.Nexus 1.5 supports prorating purchases so when you add/renew a new application on the Suite your price paid will be prorated so renewal dates remain the same.

You will still be able to cancel renewals on specific products so, as an example, you bought IP.Gallery but decided after a while you didn't use it you can cancel that renewal yourself or reactivate it later if you change your mind.

#2258347 Massive decrease in page loading time with 3.3.1!

Posted Jinkler on 22 April 2012 - 11:21 AM

Good work fellas on this release. I've just upgraded TalkFord.com and my board index exec time has dropped from 0.5 seconds on average to 0.3!

Now archiving 80% of my topics and posts, looking forward to seeing the difference :)

#2245393 Setting up new community

Posted ΑndyF on 25 March 2012 - 08:47 AM

With a new purchase, a technician will install the board for you (happens automatically with a hosted community) , with a self-hosted licence you'd need to provide your hosting details.

Actually using / administering the board is quite straightforward. The Marketplace is full of addons too to enhance your community if required. The ACP is straightforward to follow and generally friendly to use.

I'd suggest you try a free demo for a few days to see what you think. :) , please note that data in the demo cannot be transferred to a live community.

#2233702 Real tags? Is it possible, these are useless.

Posted Matt on 22 February 2012 - 09:01 AM

Ah, I went ahead and FURLed up the tags because it was easy enough to do.

board/tags/{app}/{tag}

#2227451 Ipcontent on different domain than ipboard (and other questions on ipcontent)

Posted bfarber on 02 February 2012 - 09:52 AM

The answer is....both yes and no.

IP.Content includes a custom index.php that can be used outside of your forums to load it.  This lets you run IP.Content at domain.com and the forums at domain.com/forums (or forums.domain.com).  In theory, you could technically run this custom index.php from domainx.com while the forums are at domainy.com, however the two domains would need to be pointed to the same server and domainx.com would need to be able to include and read/write files at domainy.com (the special index.php is not completely stand alone - it still needs to load the IP.Board framework files).  This would require special permission setup on the hosting side.

As you noted, you would not be able to login to domainx.com.  IP.Board only has one configuration option for the cookie domain, so it would set cookies for domainy.com always.  This would severely limit the capabilities of IP.Content running at domainx.com (since no one would ever be able to login to it).

If we are talking about subdomains (domain.com and forums.domain.com) that should work fine.  Some AJAX functionality would not work from IP.Content (because of cross-domain javascript restrictions), however work arounds for that have been added to IP.Content 2.3.0 (currently in alpha stages).

#2226542 Hats off again to the entire IPB Staff and Support

Posted R1-Limited on 30 January 2012 - 08:40 PM

I may not be the brightest star in the cosmos, but one of the best things I ever did was move from VB to IPB

7 plus cases in support all closed in the past 24 hours and all of these issues was either caused by being brain dead or well being dumb and not paying attention.

Bar Non, IPB stands on its own simply form the outstanding support the team has.  Let alone the software which I have seen grow termendously BECAUSE THEY LISTEN TO THE COMPLAINTS.  I started on 3.1.2 and now am Beta testing as I was invited to do so.  I thnk it is they know I can really screw things up so I am a great beta tester

Anyway, Thaks you Jason, Andrew, Ryan and if I missed any one, THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU.

It all started when I had an idea for a new site.  Instead of just using IPB, I setup Joomla with Community Builder thinking I could make a go out of it.  The competing site uses almost the same software although we established the site differently, it soon became appeartn, many were not gogin to join simply because of the Joomla software an the bad experiance on the site.

So I opted to move to IPB, Painfully I made mistakes, suffered loss time and i know a dozen or more postential members during the past week.

IPB Dug me out of the hole in great time and i am happy to say http://www.flattrackers.com is online and ready to show its stuff.

What we are? We are an inspired site dedicated to the art of Flat Track Racing and its History. From the early board track racing years to present we will be covering it all. The History, the stories, the champions it is all part of this great yet sadly diminishing sport.

Our goal? To be the face book of Flat Tracking to bring a new vibrancy and audience to share and remissness of the golden years. About the men who battled the dirt ovals on Indians, Harleys, BSA, Triumphs and anything that would resemble a motorcycle. There is a rich, vast history to this sport, with each AMA District boasting its own National Champions Like Gentlemen Joe Leonard the very first GNC champion out of Dist36 and the world famous King Kenny Roberts also of Dist36 heritage. We invite all who have enjoyed the sport, made it what it is, former champs and upcoming champs, fans and racers this site is for you, let get it going.

Join us and contribute to our forums, help us chronicle and share the great history of Flat Tracking. The families, the life long buddies those epic battles all have a need to be shared.

THANK YOU IPB

#2222404 Live examples of sites using Downloads application?

I'm not hosted but you can check out my downloads section here. I can't think what difference it makes whether you have a hosted package or host elsewhere.

#2211334 A few questions before I can decide

View PostJesús Toledo, on 16 December 2011 - 06:43 PM, said:

  • How good is your CMS, compare to wordpress or joomla.
  • Do you provide the service to advice me what ip.content to buy that fits my web site needs?
  • I am not a tech guy, we used to have a company that helped us on the develop any special requierments we are not with them anymore, do you guys provide this service, lets say I need some special requirement you can charge and do it for us?
  • Is it possible that you guys migrate the hole site for us?
  • do you have any video gallery that allow to tag videos?

1) While we can praise our own software (we of course use it ourselves to power http://www.invisionpower.com), your best bet is to sign up for a free demo on our website and try it out yourself. :)

2) We only sell one IP.Content package - if you decide to use IP.Content for your website, there is no service to select from.  You just purchase the software and start using it.

3) We do not provide in-house custom services, however we have a directory available where community members do provide such services.

4) We no longer provide in-house conversion services, however we provide free converters that are very simple to use for you to do this yourself (tech support for any issues is available), or you can contract someone from the custom services directory to perform the conversion for you.

5) IP.Gallery does allow videos to be posted.

#2210726 Buying new Standard license - any impact on Perpetual or Lifetime?

Posted Kessler on 17 December 2011 - 03:02 PM

In addition to what Ian said.

If you would like to convert one or more of your legacy licenses to a Standard license, we will do that for you for free.  When the license is converted, we would set an expiration on the license for when you would need to renew it.  During that time, you would get the benefits of having a Standard license at no additional cost.

Lifetime license converted to Standard, the license would expire a year after it was converted.

Perpetual license converted to Standard, we would add 6 months to it's current expiration.

Keep in mind that once converted, the licenses would reach a point of expiring and would need to be renewed, $25 for 6 months.

So if you purchase a new Standard license and decide you like the benefits of it (Spam Monitoring Service, free 5 user chat, Visual Skin Editor, etc), then you can convert your other licenses to get the benefits with those as well.

#2208534 Nexus or Downloads?

Posted .time on 13 December 2011 - 02:00 AM

If you want a setup akin to IPS Marketplace, you'll need both. Nexus adds in the paid files functionality to Downloads.
