#2069973 Topic Prefixes

Posted openfire on 19 January 2011 - 10:17 AM

I voted yes.

It should be a core feature. No one is forced to actually use the feature, but the ability should be there for those of us that do want to use it.

More Bloat, just because you get it in VB and free forums does not mean you should demand it in IPB we have done without it from the inception of IPB, and to be honest why is it that people that have migrated to IPB from VB are the ones demanding all these features, because they had them before.  There are other users of this software as well as yourself ,and many of us are getting sick of all these whimsical add ons which we then have to disable.  I for one see no need for them, I think they are tacky and do not enhance the board one little bit.

If anyone wants it so bad buy it, at least then you have it from choice, and I am not forced to have it when I don't want it.  I am also annoyed at the amount of paid mods that there are in the IP Market place now all made by people I have never heard of, even the Marketplace is now getting bloated and everything spread all over the place.

When IPB 3.2.0 comes out it is going to be a tidier faster and easier interface to use, Facebook is now taking a very large amount of boards down everyday, Xenforo is round the corner, in competion and they will not add any bloat at all, to keep their software clean.

I for one have 5 IPB items costing quite a bit of money, and if IPB don't  stop installing peoples whimsical bloat, I will for one be looking elsewhere for my forum.  IPB are by far way above the rest, but there seems now we have a lot that want to drag it down.

Come on IPB wake up, if people want these little additions, let them pay for them, I don't want them, and neither do a lot of others, so why should I be forced to install it on my computer when I don't want it.

If you have such an issue with software bloat then you shouldnt be using IPS suite in the first place, as the developers are constantly adding features or creating new software. Which is a good thing.

Every time I see the developer blogs I get dismayed.... not for the high percetange of features I could care less about, but for the lack of features I COULD USE.
It blows my mind people will actively rant against features just because they have no use for them and tell all the people who do want to just suck it up. If this feature was so unimportant you wouldnt have such a big discussion about it in the first place.
God forbid you have to ignore a setting or at best spend 2 minutes turning it off for the sake of the various people which could have their communities improved by it. A feature which somewhat existed back in IPB 2, mind you.

Like others pointed out, I wouldnt mind buying the mod as it would solve one of my problems. But once support gets discontinued... then what?

Don't social groups dived a community up and cause problems.  Although to think about it, it could be used for rpg sites as classes or races. At this point that is the only use for it that I can think of.

How about a "Charles Fanclub" at IPS forums? Or a "Modders" for those who create or use modifications for IPB.
There are many "non-essential" uses that boosts activity and keep things interesting. Encouraging users to visit your site more.

I could use it for non English speakers and assign few forum categories so that it only shows to them. Group can be kept open so I don't need to assign each user that group from ACP.

It can have many uses depending on how it gets implemented.

To my mind something like social groups would be really nice as an addon as IP.SEO but only and only if it gets done by IPS and is properly maintained.

It's funny how you see the social groups in vB as the "general" way of doing social groups.
Just because vB had a bad implementation of this feature doesn't mean that it's a bad feature. Think of groups in Facebook, it is widely used and often very interesting. I can definitely see this feature as a very good one, IPS just needs to think it through to get the maximal implementation.

On the same subject of polls. I think an ajax voting system would be nice. :)

The most wanted feature in last few years:

  • close poll, but continue discussion in topic

Im another who misses the old way of notifying pms. The new notification feature is great, however as an admin who recieves a fair few pms the dropdown preview of the pm was excellent if not for anything else but ignoring the rubbish.

1. Easy way to delete spammers. Sorry, going back and forth to delete spammers is boomer and when they start leaving messages on other users profile, it's mess.
2. Easy way to change default options for notifications. No SQL query works at present to change those settings.
3. Contact us.
4. Clickable IP address as default rather then just IP address in user list. (i know there is one tutorial for it)
5. Drag and drop feature to move PM to other custom folder.
6. Default skins need some nice polish. Need to make it little compact and nicer.
7. Pop Up when u select watch topic button rather then going to UCP and select options. (I had suggested this during 3.0.5 or 3.1.1.)
8. RSS feeds. It's horrible in present state.
9. Ability to short topics in category.

+the rest of above suggested by others :)

#1977661 PM Notifications

Posted Morrigan on 25 June 2010 - 02:07 PM

Okay. I think I mentioned this when the notifications system was first put in but I'd like the original PM notification system back (just like on the 3.0.5 version). BUT I only want to be able to enable this for PMs and not ANY other notification. I would also like the original template back, the one with the avatar and whatnot.

I think the best way to implement this is to add another column for "Inline Popup" because a blanket option just doesn't work for me. I don't want to see the popup for friend notifications, quoted posts, status replies or anything like that I just like the old popup for PMs with a blurb of the PM and the person's information right there.
I DON'T like the email paste that is there and I really HATE having an all or nothing for it.

Thanks in advance darlings.

I get frustrated with how much clicking i have to do to remove the notification after it has shown. Using the cleancut skin it shows up in three different places, and unless I click to view it from each link the notification wont vanish.
