#2270917 SEO Rankings flying all over the place, and why is this..

Actually - not quite true. If you check your post, you'll see the link is now correct /page__st__100/#entryx

The bug is fast reply doesn't add the page when it builds that link - but only you will ever see that as it's returned by ajax. When the page is refreshed or loaded by someone else, the 'real' post is shown.

#2180930 export pages and databases

Believe it or not, I've been playing with some plans for something along these lines.  No promises for a future version yet, but I can envision some sort of "application creator" tool for developers.

#2177712 Bring back the 3.1 standard editor as an option

There's a recipe for progress, right there.

"Hey, Ugg, see this raw mammoth meat we're eating. What if we used that new fire thing and . . . "
"Shut up. If you don't like raw mammoth meat, go and eat grass."

#2174705 ACP Block Page: add a couple of columns please.

Posted Edward Shephard on 24 September 2011 - 05:14 AM

I suspect that for most ipC users there is quite a lot of spare space in the ACP Block Management page.  Can I suggest adding columns to show the Parse Block reference and the caching time please as these are quite useful bits of reference information.

Thanks

We intend to restore those at some point.  They're still online, just not linked at the moment.

#2152192 Features removed from 3.1.4

Main thing I dont like about auto saved reply is apparently it never clears itself and remains there forever.

This was a bug that has been partially fixed in 3.2.1 and completely fixed in 3.2.2.

Trash can in 3,2,1?

There is the Mod CP which shows deleted content. If you really really wanted to keep a trash can, then set up a multi-moderation for it and remove all delete permissions for your moderators. It's the very same thing.

If simply using a url is a security risk we wouldn't be able to have links in the posts themselves.  How could someone do anythign any more risky by giving a lnik in one place as opposed to another?

No other system (Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, etc) allows URL avatars anymore. They are too unpredictable. I know many will now reach for "BUT THIS ISN'T FACEBOOK". I agree with that but my comparison is now down to user expectations. The average user is more comfortable with uploading an image than finding the URL.

The main reason it was removed is because it is a small security risk. We had to stop showing a user's avatar in the Admin CP because of the risks of it redirecting to another page. We have a lot of protection against that within the forum, but less so in the Admin CP because it's behind a separate log in.

Ultimately, we have simplified the forum and removed a lot of legacy features. I don't expect everyone to cheer with approval, but when you lead the pack, you make tough decisions for the good of the product.

I fully expect the grumpy minority to now dissect this post completely. :)

#2126950 Remove all 'Out of Date Entries' in language editor

Posted Michel_72 on 23 June 2011 - 04:10 AM

At the moment I am working on the Dutch translation of IP board but I am running into some snags.

The biggest problem is the 'Out of Date Entries'.
I have a translation with over 500 'Out of Date Entries' and I have to erase them all by hand.
That means pressing the 'outdated strings' button, delete a single string and press OK, 500 times.
That makes 1500 mouse-clicks!!

Can you please make it a little easier for us translators?

Kind regards,

Michel

It's also cool you can send attachments thru private conversations.

#2024796 Ability to EDIT Members Status Updates

Posted TrayDish on 01 October 2010 - 03:11 PM

Right now, admin and mods can only delete or lock status updates posts.  We need the feature to also be able to EDIT it.  Many times, members put up legitimate status updates, but sometimes they mix it along with self promotional ads or bad words.  There are many times we don't want to remove - a simple editing option would solve the problem.

We can edit posts and blog comments, why can't be edit status updates?

For bad words, we tried to add the bad word to the filter list, but because it was added AFTER the status update, it didn't do anything. It'll be nice to at least have a status filter refresh so bad words can at least be applied.

#2055037 Version 4 wish - support for wide screens

hm, a custom skin design perhaps. Or what about popup fast reply ? A box you can popup and move around a resize easily.

#2037225 3.2 Wish list ...

Posted Clickfinity on 03 November 2010 - 06:50 AM

I appreciate Matt and the team have their own plans and are probably well on their way with 3.2, but here's what I'd like to see for CycleChat:

  • View new content - Show what is actually new (unread) content; show topics only (as opposed to multiple posts from the same topic).
  • Hover preview (really liking the new version) - To work on forum view, all search results, and personal conversations - with ACP options for trigger time, and post-hover fade time.
  • Thread marking - to mark up to where I have actually read in a thread, rather than marking the whole thing as read. (Matt has said this is on the list - yippee! )
  • Lighter CSS - There's tons of the stuff ... can it be made lighter by making more "global" style attributes (with the option of adding custom code if needed)?
  • Better editor - I've lost count of the number of "issues" people have had with the post editor. Hopefully some improvements for 3.2? Emoticons as a pop-up perhaps?
  • Simple alerts, likes, and trophies - Not strictly an "everyman" feature set, but after playing with xF this is something I think would greatly improve member-engagement at my site.
  • Simple out-of-the-box Article system - IP.Content is great, but confuses the hell out of me. I just want a simple, categorised, article system where I select from a pre-built template, apply my site "style" as a wrapper, and then start adding articles.
  • Expiring notifications - Once I've read a message, remove the notification about it.
I'm sure I can think of others, but that's not a bad start for now.

Cheers,
Shaun :D

#2025427 Suggestion: Using CSS Sprites for Icons

Yes, he has an interesting idea, I'll admit that.  I'm curious how well it turns out.  Once you start factoring in custom skins and such, things like this can get tricky.
For "normal" images with the good ol' <img>-tag, things are really easy. I'm working on a "suggester" right now that downloads pages as a guest/googlebot and gives suggestions.
Should be easy enough for everyone and works with all skins.

You won't get all images, but getting 50% of the images is still better than nothing. And you can always add more manually.

CSS-images on the other hand are hard/time consuming to eliminate. I've added advanced settings so you can indeed eliminate almost all CSS-images, but it requires knowledge and time. You need to right align, left align, add margins, and sometimes repeat images. You also need to add image specific CSS-code. But the benefits can be worth it.

#2027706 Native Chinese (non-Latin) search possible?

Posted Huai on 09 October 2010 - 09:29 AM

Hi,

I really like to use IPB.

But it uses MySQL fulltext search or manual search which is very slow.
Only way to solve in using Sphinx.

Is it possible to improve it like phpBB does?
phpBB have it's own search method and uses PCRE and mbstring in the back, works very well with non-Latin characters.
