#2027176 Any plans to improve the UI ?

I think the main IPB can do to improve UI is to have less page loads to do simple functions such as posting replies, editing posts etc. I also think that PB should make a default theme that looks more modern. The current theme looks really outdated to be honest.

#1999057 ACP System Statistics
Posted
Mark
on 02 August 2010 - 04:40 PM
The new design was intended to remove extraneous information and make important notices more prominent and noticable.
What I would prefer to do rather than bring back the box completely is introduce dashboard warnings for important information. For example, you'll notice if there are any accounts pending admin validation, you'll see a big yellow box alerting you to this.
Particularly what statistics do people miss? As Michael mentioned, total members, posts, etc can be viewed on the board index - and the big one (pending admin validations) has been moved to a notification.
To anyone who watched their ACP for changes in those numbers: particularly which numbers were you looking at? We can create notifications for them.
We're of course not out to make anyone's life difficult. The change was intended to make a useless page useful, and ensure that everyone was aware of important information (you should always be running the latest version, for example). We're happy to make adjustments though

- This is the first maintenance release of IP.Board 3.1.x and its applications. We have fixed many reported issues since the first supported released. Even so, as this is only the first maintenance release, there could be as yet undiscovered issues. Please report issues in the bug tracker.
- Important technical support note: During the launch of the new products, and the great interest they will create, support response times (especially for install or upgrade requests) may be delayed. We appreciate your understanding during the launch time. Support response times have greatly improved since the launch of IP.Board 3.1.0 through the tireless work of our support staff and we expect services to continue to normalize.
- Other release notes as specified for the IP.Board 3.1.0 launch still apply for this release.
Version 3.1.2 Coming Soon
IPS is dedicated to promptly fixing any reported issues and will do so with the release of version 3.1.2 soon after 3.1.1's release. You may also wish to keep an eye on our knowledge base where we will release patches for any critical issues that come up between the two version releases. There is no set release timeframe for 3.1.2 as we will evaluate based on feedback and and issue reports coming in. As always, follow our company blog for latest information.

You can download these releases in the client area and begin enjoying the new features.
- We have had three beta releases for testing and are confident any major issues have been addressed. However, as this is the first supported release that will be used by thousands of people, there could be as yet undiscovered issues. Please report issues in the bug tracker.
- Important technical support note: During the launch of the new products, and the great interest they will create, support response times (especially for install or upgrade requests) may be delayed. We appreciate your understanding during the launch time. If your community is critical in nature and even the slightest delay in support services would impact you then you may wish to wait until version 3.1.1 to upgrade.
- If you are upgrading from IP.Board 3.0.x then please note that, although this is not a destructive upgrade, you may need to manually update any skins you have using the new merge center to add the new functionality. You may also need to update any custom applications or hooks to use some new file locations. Technical support from IPS for skins is limited. When in doubt contact the author of the skin or use the default skin that ships with IP.Board.
- If you are currently using Facebook Connect integration, you will now need to add your Facebook application ID into the system settings. Please see this article for more information.
- Legacy chat services Addonchat and Parachat are no longer supported from version 3.1 onwards. If you are using these older services and wish to continue doing so: do not upgrade to version 3.1 at this time. You may wish to consider switching to our new IP.Chat service.
- Keep in mind that all the new application versions also require IP.Board 3.1 to operate. Do not try to use them on older versions of IP.Board.
Version 3.1.1 Coming Soon
IPS is dedicated to promptly fixing any reported issues and will do so with the release of version 3.1.1 soon after 3.1.0's release. You may also wish to keep an eye on our knowledge base where we will release patches for any critical issues that come up between the two version releases.
As defined in the release notes: because this is the first widely-distributed release there will be as yet undiscovered issues. You can expect a maintenance release, IP.Board 3.1.1 (and other application maintenance releases), in the next two to three weeks (around mid-June) to address issues reported in this first supported release. We appreciate your understanding and hope you can assist us in identifying any problems in this first supported release so we can quickly remedy them in our next update.

#1900620 IP.Gallery 3.1.0 Released
Posted
IPS News
on 18 January 2010 - 11:09 AM
The following is a list of what's new in this version of IP.Gallery:
Friendly URLs
We've integrated gallery into the global FURL system used by IP.Board 3, this will allow gallery to create friendly URLs for categories, albums, and images.
Category/Album Covers
When viewing an image, you will have a new option to set that image as the 'cover' for the category or album that contains the image. When a cover image is specified for a category or album, that image will always be displayed, in place of the last uploaded image thumbnail.
Sub Albums
Albums now support unlimited sub albums, which work exactly like gallery sub categories.
Profile Picture Album
You can now create a new kind of album, a 'Profile Picture' Album. After this album has been created, any images that you upload to it will be displayed on the change picture page in your User CP, making them easy to select as your profile image.
Image notes
Image owners are now able to add notes to sections of their images, positioning and resizing them to suit. Other members will be able to see the notes when hovering over the image. (An example)
Image rotation
Images can now be rotated in 90° increments, to compensate for those photos taken in landscape or portrait, but saved in the wrong orientation.
New slideshow
We have completely rewritten the slideshow feature! It is now a unified interface, loading images on demand as necessary. Users can play or pause the slideshow at will, or jump to specific photos using the thumbnail bar.
Friends-only albums
When creating an album, users can now choose to restrict viewing to only those users who are on their friends list.
Reputation support in comments
We have added support for IP.Board's reputation feature in comments posted within IP.Gallery.
Interface tweaks
We have updated the style of categories so that larger versions of the image are used, to give more impact. The image listing has also been updated, and will now show as many images on a row as the users browser can fit. This should improve the display of IP.Gallery for users who have higher screen resolutions. The image view screen has also been improved, including support for those features mentioned above.
Downloading
You can download IP.Gallery 3.1.0 if you have an active license in the client area. As always, make a backup of your community before proceeding.

#1899615 IP.Content 1.2.0 Released
Posted
IPS News
on 15 January 2010 - 03:18 PM
The following is a list of what's new in this version of IP.Content, our community content system for IP.Board:
Field default values
There is now a per-field option to define the default value for the field. This default value will be used when the "add new record" form is displayed as the default value to place in the field. The user can still, of course, change this value while configuring their record.
Disable fields in listing and display templates
Many have requested a method of disabling specific fields from displaying in listing and display templates without having to modify the default templates (i.e. to exclude certain fields in the foreach loop, or to manually define the layout). As of 1.2.0 there are two new settings when configuring your fields to do just that. If you disable a field in the listing template, it simply won't show up there. You can even disable a field in the listing and display template and have a hidden field attached to the record, if you wish.
Additional sorting for database feeds
You will now be able to sort database feeds by meta-data fields (record id, last updated, submitted date, comment count, etc.). This will allow you to more easily create database feeds to show latest records, for instance.
Text formatting options for text input fields
There are now per-field settings on text-input fields (only) to allow you to define the following automatic formatting options:
- Capitalize all letters
- Lower-case all letters
- Capitalize just the first letter of the string
- Capitalize the first letter of each word in the string
- Remove excess punctuation
Attachment parsing for forum and blog feeds
Attachment parsing has been added for forum and blog feeds (provided you do not use the default strip tags and truncate calls in the template for the content value).
Attachment data available programatically
Some users have expressed interest in having access to attachment data in a more robust manner than simply passing the field through the IP.Content attachment parser. For instance, you may want to display 1 image from an attachment field in the listing, without having to worry about whether there are more than 1 images associated with the field.
Attachment data has now been added to a global cache during normal parsing routines, so that you may be able to programatically access the attachment data for the record and do more unique things with the data. A resource article on how to access this data will be forthcoming following the release.
WYSIWYG and Code Highlighter Support
We have added support into IP.Content to integrate with the following WYSIWYG and Code Editors:
- TinyMCE
- CKEditor
- CodePress
- EditArea
- (None/default textarea)
Downloading
You can download IP.Content 1.2.0 if you have an active license in the client area. As always, make a backup of your community before proceeding.

Currently, the Blog This option is global. I would like to suggest it is added to be group selectable (in the same way you can restrict RSS importing to certain groups)
A good example, you may only want your staff or perhaps certain groups to be able to access this feature.

#1886299 Invision Power Board 3.0.5 Released
Posted
IPS News
on 08 December 2009 - 04:59 PM
This is a maintenance release for IP.Board 3 and addresses various bugs, security enhancements, and performance improvements.
Major Changes Since 3.0.4
Among many dozens of smaller bugs fixed and performance improvements, the following security enhancements were made:
- SQL and local file include issue fixed. Note: Due to protection within the SQL driver classes, it is very difficult to effectively exploit IP.Board using this attack. Also you need moderator permissions to perform any exploit. We've hardened this code regardless. Also, due to the input cleaning functions IP.Board uses, the local file include is limited to PHP files on the file system as the usual 'null byte' trick is ineffective.
- Internet Explorer XSS Issue due to incorrect attachment handling fixed.
Downloading
You can download IP.Board 3.0.5 and any applications you have an active license for in the client area. As always, make a backup of your community before proceeding.
