This is the first step in the testing process for IP.Board 3.2.0's upcoming release. We will be testing the new version here for several weeks and working on fixing issues with the goal of our first public beta release being as stable as it can be.
Please look around and help us in testing by submitting reports to our bug tracker so we can all work together to create a stable release. Keep in mind that our applications - IP.Gallery, IP.Blog, IP.Calendar, IP.Chat, IP.Downloads, and IP.Content - have also all been updated to be compatible with IP.Board 3.2 so please also test those. Your help is greatly appreciated!
You may wish to review the What's New in IP.Board 3.2 topic for information on the exciting changes in IP.Board 3.2.
Downloading IP.Board 3.2.0
IP.Board 3.2.0 is not yet available for download.
We are using it here on our company forums both as a preview for feedback and to identify any possible issues before release. Before a final release we will be testing it here on our company forums for a few weeks and then posting betas for download for all active license holders and invite you to participate in the beta testing process when we reach that milestone. When the final, supported release is made available we will make an announcement here.
#2092140 IP.Board 3.1.4 Compatibility Patch for Internet Explorer 9
Posted
IPS News
on 18 March 2011 - 09:31 AM
With the recent release of Internet Explorer 9, JavaScript compatibility issues have been reported with IP.Board 3.1. These issues stem from the fact that IP.Board utilizes Prototype, a popular JavaScript library, and the latest stable release of Prototype at the time of 3.1.4's release was version 1.6. Prototype version 1.7 has since been released to include compatibility with Internet Explorer 9.
Today we are releasing a patch for IP.Board 3.1.4 that includes the updated Prototype library (version 1.7) so that our clients may update their communities immediately. While IE9 is still new, adoption of the latest release of this popular browser is expected to grow quickly, and we want to ensure that our software works in as many commonly-used browsers as possible.
Updating your Community
As of the time of this announcement, the main IP.Board 3.1.4 download in your client area has been updated. If you download 3.1.4 after this announcement, your download will include the patch. You may optionally download the full 3.1.4 release and upload it to your community to ensure it is fully up to date at any time.
To patch your community manually, follow these simple steps:
- Download the patch zip file attached to this announcement
- Extract the zip file locally on your computer
- Upload the contents of this zip file to your server, preserving directory structure (the /public folder should overwrite the /public folder on your server where IP.Board is located)
If you require assistance or have any questions, please feel free to submit a ticket.
- Be aware that as this patch only involves updating a single JavaScript file, you and your users may need to clear your browser cache for the changes to take effect.
- We believe this patch will work on any versions of IP.Board 3.1.x but has only been tested on version 3.1.4.

#1967003 IPB on using Cassandra and or HTML5

Whilst we (the devs) would like to take advantage of every new technology, we are tethered to that baseline. We have to provide the same experience for someone using IE7 on PHP 5.1.x as someone using the latest build of Chrome with the latest version of PHP.
We see a lot of technologies come and go and we have to weigh up the benefits and if the technology is going to last.
We will make use of HTML 5 when our lowest common denominator supports it.

I'm still adjusting to IPB but do miss a number of features my vB board had and where I feel IPB would benefit from including them I'm saying so.
If enough of us ask IPS for something I'm sure they'll accommodate us, but we have to address things in a reasonable way and give constructive arguments for spending the time and effort to code then.
We can help shape the software and in doing so everyone benefits.
Cheers,
Shaun

However, the experiences above are terrifying to read for a big board owner. I would very much like to switch over from vb to IPB, but I would need to find a way to manage 5.000 active infractions and 3.000 active bans(including temporary bans). Reading the above, it seems that is not possible with IPB out of the box. Please correct me if I am misunderstanding.
I would like to add that vb users have been begging for a report center like IPB has. Its too bad to read that its not yet working as well as it could. Its still a major improvement from vb though.

Is your forum less of a strain on sql than VB?
IPS strives to reduce both server load and database queries/load as much as possible. To say one is better than the other would be subjective in many ways, even if a side-by-side comparison was done. Personally, I would tend to lean towards IP.Board being less of a strain, particularly now with the issues that vB has been having.
Do you think my sql problems are more VB problems or server problems it is dedicated server at Webair. The site is about 5 years old.
If you are getting database corruption, you may want to consider that it may be your hosting company that is at fault for it and not the software. The best thing to do is to set up a test installation on another host and see if you can reproduce the issues. If so, then it could be the software causing the issues, otherwise your host needs to figure out why it's happening and fix it.
I want to use your stuff, I need the forum the chat room for about 50 people and the gallery. How much would that be?
Board + Gallery = 149.99 + 64.99 - 5% discount = $204.23 + 29.99 (chat, 50 users) = 234.22
Also I use VBadvanced for a portal that is in my root and the forum is in a folder named /forums Do you have something that will work like that? I am not very good at changing html or php pages. I still use front page to do html:(
IP.Board comes with a built in portal or you can use an add-on portal or you can use IP.Content to create web pages. IP.Content will require some HTML (and PHP if you want to use PHP functions). However, with IP.Content v2 coming out, it will have an articles system included which will make it easier to put up new material.
Can I make the change myself or would you recommend having you do it. If so how much is that?
That's entirely up to you. If you need IPS to do custom work, you can contact them at sales@invisionpower.com to get a quote.
I am tempted to just use your hosting solution and pointing my domain name to u. Are your servers pretty fast? I rarely have more than a hundred people online at a time.I personally don't host anything via IPS, but they generally are reliable and understandably will try to deliver fast service, especially considering that they host IP.Board on the community hosting plans.
We get quite a bit of search engine traffic and would the page addresses be the same or redirect to new address?
Your vB URLs would redirect to the new IP.Board URLs.
My main thing is the portal page though. Its nothing fancy just a recent threads and birthdays, polls and whos in chat type of stuff but my members would freak without it. I read about your content thing but like I said if its harder than filling out a form I would have a hard time making that work.
Depending on what you want to do, there can be a very steep learning curve with IP.Content. As I mentioned above, with IP.Content v2, it comes with an articles system that makes it much easier to include new content.
Hope to hear from you soon before the next batch of angry emails from mad members shows up in my mail box:(
You'll find responses here to be rather quick.
Thanks a bunch
Penny

I strongly disagree with this. A more accurate statement would have been "IP.content CAN BE very programming intensive if you want it to be". In other words, its a very flexible framework that you can do just about anything with and you can make it as difficult to use as it needs to be to suit your needs. Like others have said, the default templates can go a long way in producing good site features with no programming required at all.
Another great feature of IP.content is that blocks you create can be parsed in forum templates. This makes it easy to integrate content not just in the IP.content instance, but throughout your IPB powered site. Merged community and content can take your site to new levels of success not possible with strictly separate software components.
#1874634 Converting forum with 1.5+ million posts and high traffic

My IPB forum runs like a charm with 1.5 million posts :
http://www.clubpoker.net/forum-poker
This is the 2.3.6 forum but I'm about to upgrade to 3.x.
I had some issues with the conversion from phpBB2, but since then, I'm a happy customer.

How's performance? Any problems you ran into when converting? How's search?
My board has:
1.5+ million posts
Lots of megathreads (more than 30k posts per thread)
MySQL database is about 1.3 gigs (40% is index data)
3+ gigs worth of attachments (stored in file system)
Running on two seperate machines
SQL gets ~200 queries per second
Web server load average is about 0.8
